Dark purple/ inky in color with a reddish rim.
Beautiful nose with wild flowers, red cherries, currents, sweet strawberries, dark chocolates, light tobacco, light wood, Indian spices and black pepper
Medium plus in body with medium plus acidity and long legs.
Dry on the palate with sour cherries, plums, cooked strawberries, spices, herbs, light wood, coffee and peppercorn.
Short finish with soft tannins and tangy raspberries.
This 8-year-old Petit Verdot from Los Angeles County is still drinking very nicely now. Fruity and elegant. Tangy and interesting.
Needs 90 minutes to open up properly, and show the beautiful nose, which I loved.
Not what one might expect from a California Petit Verdot, however it is very interesting to try.
I had this vintage 3 years ago, and it was drinking better then.
A good food wine that I paired with cheeses and dried meats.
100% Petit Verdot grapes were hand-picked and aged for 44 months in French oak barrels. A small production of only 360 bottles.
14.7% alcohol by volume.
89 points.

I’m a sucker for Spanish Tempranillo. This wine seems less fruity and simultaneously more tannic than what I normally have. But still delicious. This is my first non Rioja Tempranillo. This is from the Castilla and Leon region. Typical? I’m eager to find out. — 7 years ago

18 Davies Renteria single vineyard was solid. Probably opened too early, but a beautiful nose of cherry cola, vanilla and a bit of black tea. Not as much depth on the palate, but it’s warming up and the finish is growing in the second glass. Been consistently impressed with Davies. — 4 years ago

Presented to me double blind at Tasting Group. The wine pours a deep ruby/purple color with an opaque core and some rim variation; medium+ viscosity with moderate staining of the tears and some signs of sediment. On the nose, the wine is developing with notes of ripe and some dried red and black fruits: Luxardo cherry, plum, cocoa, purple, dried flowers, vanilla, and fine warm spices. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium+ tannin and medium acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is medium+ and alcohol seems elevated. Initial conclusions: this could be a super Tuscan with a good amount of Merlot; a Merlot-based blend from Saint Emilion or a Tempranillo from Italy, France or Spain. I didn’t think this gave me enough Italian vibes to make me comfortable with Italy conclusion and I thought this had too much pretty French oak on it to be likely from Spain so I went with my gut and called this a Merlot based blend from France, Bordeaux, Saint Emilion, 2006. Ahhhhh…dang it, Remelluri likes to use French Oak barrique and it threw me off. Gotta remember there are some more modern producers making wine like that. Good stuff though!
