La Chapelle Hermitage Marsanne Roussanne 2014

Deep golden in color with more body and intensity than a Chardonnay. Asian apple and some apricot on the palate. Neutral oak provides umami as well. This wine is in it’s ideal drinking window! — 8 months ago

Domaine de Thalabert Crozes-Hermitage Syrah 2015

9.2

I initially expected more based on vintage + producer, but also have to keep context in focus that this is Crozes-hermitage.

Followed over two days and very little changed.

I’m surprised at saying that after 48hrs for a C-H…I think this is in a weird phase/shut down. Powerful/heady aromatics (black fruits, olive, espresso). ABV pokes out a bit up front. Good mid-palate weight with peppered dark fruits, herbs and some iron before a curtain of tannin shuts this down hard. Undeniably Syrah at the finish with a rusticity I normally find in Cornas…dark florals, spice, graphite and some charcoal. A serious and structured C-H.

@Jay Kline, I agree with all your comments, I think 1989/1990 were the last great “old school” Jaboulet (I’ve opened 3 1989 La Chappelle’s the last year, and every bottle has been fabulous. Nothing else to add to your exhaustive recounting of the fall/rise of this producer since 1990 or so.

La Chapelle Hermitage Syrah

I was going through my La Chapelle section today and my eyes got stuck on this 1999 - bottle looked absolutely pristine and I decided it was a perfect age to drink. Cork was in great condition and the wine was powerful and youthful with no signs of oxidation. Could have kept the bottle for a few more years, but it was probably perfect today. All the complex leathery earthy goodness you expect from this wine was there. — 5 months ago

Mule Noire Crozes-Hermitage Syrah

Some went into the lamb shanks and we drank the rest.
Loved the berry in the nose and on the palate. Incredible an hour after opening--soft and rich, tannins adding character without stepping on the taste buds.
