Stony Peak

Stony Hill

Napa Valley Chardonnay 2011

This wine is testimony to great California Chardonnay that is also rare in style. No oak not malolactic fermentation. Hence the longevity. This 2011 is showing a bit of age with a deeper straw color than previous bottles from the same year. Still, only a hint of oxidation in the glass and on the nose. The pear and quince have evolved to a bit of caramel and butterscotch. Delicious to drink and I admit this might be the upper limit. I will drink remaining 2012 and 13’s in the next few months. — 3 days ago

Château Lynch-Bages

Grand Cru Classé Pauillac Cabernet Sauvignon Blend 1990

Medium ruby garnet, quite thin garnet terracotta rim . Quite rich , with ripe red fruits , some tobacco , warm spiciness , cigar box , ripe cassis , sous bois , after a while touch of coffee. On the palate this also shows good roundness with ripe red and dark fruits, cassis , red plum , grafite , touch of earthiness . Balanced acidity and rounded sweet tannin . Quite juicy with a grafite edged finish . Pretty good length. This is at peak now . For now and over the next 5 -8 years. Quite generous and showy , ripe but balanced, a good showing. — 3 months ago

Stagecoach Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon 2014

Lovely wine. Paired with venison. Decanted for a couple of hours. Full-bodied. Dark cherries, blackberries, a hint of dark chocolate, and Smokey. Very satisfying. — 8 months ago

Marchesi Antinori

Tignanello Toscana Super Tuscan Blend 2014

Deep, elegant Super Tuscan now firmly in its tertiary phase. Nose leans more to leather, tobacco, dried herbs and balsamic notes, with the red cherry and plum fruit clearly in the background. Medium‑plus body and acidity, fine chalky tannins; savoury flavours of dried red fruit, cedar and spice carry through on a long, resolved finish. Showing peak complexity today and unlikely to improve further with cellaring, so firmly in the drink‑now camp. — a month ago

Red berry nose with notes pepper. Cherry, chocolate, plum and leather on the tongue. Full body, rich ruby color, finishes delightfully tannic. — 3 months ago

Turley

Mead Ranch Zinfandel 2017

This wine hits with massive brightness and blueberry flavors. But it also has excellent acidity to avoid it being sweet or fruit bomb like.

Pretty good with some age on it.

Atlas Peak

Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2022

Deep inky in color with a short reddish rim.

Fruity nose of black currants, black plums, blackberries, vanilla, cedar, licorice, light cola, eucalyptus, chocolates, Indian spices and peppercorn.

Full-bodied and elegant with medium acidity and long legs.

Dry and fruit forward on the palate with blackberries, black currants, cooked cherries, raspberries, peppercorn, chocolates, spices and light oak.

Tangy finish with fine grained tannins and cranberries.

This young Cabernet Sauvignon from Atlas Peak in Napa Valley is already drinking beautifully. Nicely balanced with a soft mouthfeel. Elegant and rich. Fruit forward and complex.

Still young and needs a few years in the bottle to mature properly, but already enjoyable even by itself.

Needed 2 hours to open up properly, so be patient. Well worth the wait. Loved the nose once it opened up.

Tangy and interesting to drink by itself or with food. Paired nicely with my Ox tail.

A tiny production of only 6 barrels.

14.5% alcohol by volume.

92 points.

$75.

Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2019

Color - dark ruby red. Nose - red fruit, floral and herbaceous nose with lingering scents of vanilla, potting soil. Taste - chalky, textured wine and restrained. Flavor leads off with blackberry, cedar, currants and pepper notes followed by secondary notes of vanilla and a long dry finish. — 5 months ago

Sequoia Grove

Stagecoach Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon 2019

This really leans into the darker aspect of Cab. Dark cassis, loads of dark crushed stone, baker’s chocolate, dark iodiney savory notes. Intense in the mouth, but with surprisingly nice acids for its 14.9 frame. Rich, but bone dry. Still tannic, but it’s soft. — 8 months ago
