2003 | Red Meritage
(Cabernet Sauvignon / Merlot / Cabernet Franc)
Rosenblum Cellars; Holbrook Mitchell (Vineyard) Trio
Napa Valley; Yountville, CA USA
(91-93; Drink 2023-33)
Perfect cork.
Fantastic ripe plum notes to the nose and palate. I don't know the exact blending percentages of the grapes, but assume CS is dominant since it's listed first on the back label. But, the Merlot is most prominent at this age and it's singing a beautiful song tonight after 3H in the decanter. Last bottle from release purchase in April 2006, winery direct. — 2 years ago

Intense & fresh ruby red color together with fresh and bright red cherry, plum, sweet basil, and peppery spices on the nose & palate. Medium-to-full-bodied, solid texture, strong but soft tannins, and spicy aftertaste on the finish. Soft & delicious and remain very good value & one of my favorite. — 8 years ago
Solid, if not special — 8 years ago
Blueberry, vanilla and leather. Nice trio. High acidity, the wine is rather tannic. — 3 years ago
Pre dinner wine at Dead Sea resort jordan. Med to full bodied. Black fruit tobacco anise. Nice tannins. — 4 years ago
Tart. Acidic, slight floral. — 5 years ago
The two Bordeaux varieties and one from Burgundy give the wine its characteristics - smoke and spice from the Merlot, full fruit and herbs from the Cab Franc and a tart finish from the Pinot. The Pinot shows much more than 1% might suggest. Smoke, herbs and red fruit are abundant, but the Pinotesque notes of cola and black tea deliver a solid smack. Cool climate rings true here in a delightful wine. — 7 years ago

Needs time to open. Earthy nose cherry flavored — a year ago
’88, ‘89 and ‘90 are probably my favorite consecutive trio of Yquem vintages and 88 starts this trio in fine fashion, absolutely perfect tonight and infinitely aromatic in its layered, complex and intensely forward bouquet. The palate is wonderfully rich, silky, racy and viscous with the most perfect balance of primary and secondary character. Still so young! But in an incredible spot. — 3 years ago
Toast, strawberry, cherry and hay on the nose. It's rather subtle and delicate. The palate is very well designed, with a strong acid backbone, a nice silky texture with strawberry, a velvety tannin wall before a fruity, silky finish. It's very smooth and juicy, and dangerously easy going. It was served all along dinner but it was showing best when paired with cheese (Saint nectaire fermier was a hit pairing) — 5 years ago
Excited acid, still with a rich mouthfeel. Pear, light tropical notes. — 7 years ago
What a winner this wine is. To even call it wine is such an understatement, because the combination of those 3 varieties gave birth to an experience so surreal, that it gives meaning to self proclaimed wine connoisseurs, wanting to experience and explore the 7 levels of heaven, or shall I say, the 3 levels of pure vineyard perfection. It gives purpose to wine lovers, because it serves the exact reason why wine lovers like myself drink wine. The flavours are akin to a nice Sakura blossom painting, with some deep rich red-purple colour palette. A visual experience in your mind that you will always long for in time to come. In short, it has ‘characters’ that play out so perfectly well that it commands its own leading title so to speak. And, the best part is you can’t tell who is your favourite character. This is for those whose drank all the hard liquors out there and decided, “wine is for me”. The explorers. — 8 years ago
