Whispering Angel Côtes de Provence Rosé Blend 2024

Very light salmon pink taking on that orange hue. Aromatics are orange blossom, hibiscus, and lemon grass with some vanilla tying them neatly together. Flavor is citrus fruit and creamsicle with a brief stop on the mid palate for some tannins and then a sharp cleansing acidity. Goes very well with an elote risotto with chipotle chicken. — 9 months ago

Whispering Dove

Oakville Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon 2001

Deep dark plum in the glass. Basically impenetrable. A touch of bricking on the thin edges. On the nose, the fruit is barely clinging on but still present. Plums and blueberries are the dominant notes here. A heavy dose of toasted cedar and green bell peppers. There’s faint floral aromas of violets along with a shock of burnt tobacco.

This is about as Napa as Napa gets. I was quite worried about how this Cab would present but it’s still alive and kicking. The end may be nigh but not quite nigh enough. Pleasant acid and well integrated tannins. Big and rich as you would expect an Oakville Cab to be but still smooth after hours of decanting. Plenty of chocolate with a dash of vanilla. The fruit on the tongue is diminished and subtle but still showing pretty well. Cherry pie and blueberry cobbler. The finish is medium length with just a touch of soft spice. This was so much fun and a great experience. Definitely mature and knocking on the door of almost gone but still good, nonetheless.

Whispering Hill Single Vineyard Series Mount Barker Shiraz 2018

Spicy mulberry aromas and flavors in this lovely aged Shiraz from the Whispering Hill vineyard in the Mt. Barker area of the Great Southern region, the winery is about 1 hour north of the Margaret River area, on the way south from Perth, still quite dark color, starting to show its age, but still a very fine Shiraz!! — 5 months ago

Aroma of flinty strawberries. Tart strawberries berries upfront. Watermelon comes into play in the middle. Then a quick bone dry finish. — 3 years ago

Needs a good hour of decanting. Anderson Valley PN’s are not necessarily something I’d pour for a crowd of people. IMHO — 6 years ago

La Grande Rue Grand Cru Monopole Pinot Noir 2012

Another wine from the Burgundy dinner in Sydney 6 weeks ago. I have been figuring out how to get photos from my camera roll to Delectable. It is not always straightforward. Notes to come later. We had 2 vintages of La Grande Rue. This is the 2012. I found my notes. Not a big fruit influence from this cooler year. Initially a fair bit of oak and a fair bit of whole bunch. Medium weight at best. Meadows tells us that the wines ageing potential most closely mirrors that of Romanee Saint Vivant. After La Romanee, La Grande Rue is the smallest of the Vosne Grand Crus. — 8 months ago

Somewhat muted nose full of baking spices. Beautiful flavors of cranberry, ginger, milling spices, and forest floor that just goes on and on. — 5 years ago
