Domaine du Clos du Fief

Tradition Juliénas Gamay 2018

The bottle gets a 9.0, but I want to give it a 10.0 because the Skurnik portfolio, to an extent, has hit Mississippi! A big moment for the troubled relationship my state seems to have with good European wine. Nice more robust style Gamay. Not particularly my cup of tea, but it tastes damn good tonight. Now it is time to see more than bottom of the bin burgundies around! — 5 years ago

Bosquet des Papes

Cuvée Tradition Châteauneuf-du-Pape Grenache Blend 2017

Delectable Wine
9.2

Lurid magenta. Expansive aromas of mineral-tinged red berries, incense and cola, joined by a suave floral nuance as the wine opens up. Appealingly sweet and seamless on the palate, offering juicy raspberry, cherry, spicecake and candied licorice flavors that are braced by a spine of juicy acidity. Finishes smooth and long, with gentle tannins and lingering floral pastille and star anise notes. (Josh Raynolds, Vinous, December 2019)

Domaine Jean Royer

Cuvée Tradition Châteauneuf-du-Pape 2021

2021 was a cooler finesse year in CdP and it shows with this wine. Savory nose: charcuterie, dried plums and fig. It doesn’t drink hot, plenty of snappy acidity, some spicy notes, wild cherry and grippy tannins on the finish. I’ll be seeking out more 2021 CdPs based on this one. #châteauneufdupape — 4 months ago

Interesting that the label would show a languedoc cross when gigondas is clearly not in that region. Occitan used to be spoken in that region a long time ago and Provençal is the regional dialect derived from occitan (langue d’oc). Maybe that’s why. Interesting, indeed !

Château de la Gardine

Chateauneuf du Pape Blanc Cuvée Tradition 2015

2015 vintage. Not in the same league as the 2016 and 2017, but nevertheless an attractive wine. Golden yellow. Honeyed nose with subtle hints of rosemary and fresh mint. Round mouthfeel, lacks a bit of tension, but charming. Good spicy length. — 4 years ago

Lucien Albrecht

Albrecht Tradition Réserve Crémant d'Alsace Chardonnay Blend

Tried new batch. Lucien Albrecht pioneered Crémant production in 1971 and helped gain an Appellation Contrôlêe for the wine and for Alsace. Pale lemon color, fine bubbles with a light creamy mousse and aromas of fresh stone fruit with biscuit scents. On the palate ripe apple, citrus and peachy flavors with nice mineral tones, dry with vivid acidity. Lingering finish with good balance ending with fruit, slight mineral and yeast tang. Excellent value as a Champagne alternative! Consistent quality. — 5 years ago

Barbaresco Nebbiolo 2013

Winery located in Alba, the Piedmont region was founded by its namesake in 1881. Great Grandson, Pio Boffa, continues the tradition of innovative wine making. Ruby with dried red fruit aromas and herb floral scents. On the palate sour cherry & raspberry, cinnamon, toasty nuts, licorice and herb notes. Full soft tannins bring fruit to lingering finish ending with earthy mineral. Wonderful! — 6 years ago

This was Minute Maid lemonade mix, violets, and the smell of freshly sanded wood. Really fine acidity and surprising depth. I could sniff these for hours. I kinda did. I think @Carla Hine thought I was weird for doing so. — 4 years ago

@Doctor No @Severn Goodwin hahahaha. I didn’t think it was weird. We were all trying to puzzle through it, while also trying to come up with the most obnoxious/twee aromatic note we could. I think I settled on acacia resin. 😆 It was a great bottle that kept me coming back for more.

I once sniffed an oil can at the edge of the Black Sea for months only to realize my true love contained nothing but the mysteries of Caspian Sea foam. The answer is never what it seems.

Very nice example of Sancerre. Well worth it; from Chez Foushee. — 6 years ago

Georges Gardet

Brut Tradition Champagne Blend

Bright lemon zest, golden apple, pineapple, with secondary shortbread and guava fruit notes. Fruit forward with hints of toast and yeast. Palate hits with soft tropical citrus and orchard fruit, developing into a round mid-palate and driving acidity to finish. Length is above par and evolves. Minerality tingles on the palate. Excellent QPR from #winetext. Happy New Year!! — 6 years ago
