Tondré Grapefield Pinot Noir 2022

This SLH Pinot is delicious! Medium ruby color. Aromas of blueberry, cherry, salinity and earthy tones. Plum and black cherry on the palate with an earthy finish.

@Neil Valenzuela Yes- but much nicer before the pandemic. Now no tasting in the cheese shop, but we load up when we do go... last time they had a Hatch Chili Cheddar cheese from Utah that was amazing melted on sourdough. I think this bottle was part of our KQED auction win of 1 year membership at Wrath a few years ago.

San Saba Chardonnay 2020

Bottle #2 from the LB chardo mystery case….one of those super heavy chard btls…much better than #1, a ton of flavor, heavy on citrus & honey, not offensive in any way, but at the same time a little too up front on the palate, not much restraint. Stands up well to strongly flavored dishes. NB: open btl does not age well! — 2 years ago

Bonny Doon Vineyard

Vin Gris De Cigare Grenache Rosé Blend 2019

Pre-Covid vintage; what have these grapes of wrath provided unto us mere mortals? Pink and gold, excellent clarity. Strawberries in nose and mouth, hints of peach, apple, pear and lemon flavor, mineral finish. Acidity is fine; this ain’t watery to my palate, just “lightly flavored”. If you want a fruit-forward red fruit dominant Rosé, this is not your wine. Its charm is it’s different. Good for sipping, but not a great food wine, I’d think — 5 years ago

Chalk Hill

Estate Bottled Chalk Hill Sauvignon Blanc 2019

I was in the mood for Sauvignon Blanc that had more to say for itself than “hi, I’m Sauvignon Blanc” to which I’d theoretically reply “do I LOOK like a Basic B? Huh? Whatcha gonna say about THAT Savvy B?” Kidding, I’d never do that but if I were the type to be so insulting this wine would not bear the brunt of my wrath because it is more than SB spiritually and literally (there’s 8% Sauvignon Gris in the mix). It is understated. Sort of hinting first at greens, then grapefruit and lemons. On the palate it is quite elegant, bringing in honeysuckle and zip. It does a graceful dance over your tongue, a petite allegro but slightly slowed down, not too fast too follow if you happen to be it’s dance partner.
If you like your SB to slap you around and make you say it’s name this may not be your jam, but if you want a little intrigue, this one’s for you.

Destruction Level Monterey Grenache Blend 2015

A GS blend and aptly-named. Big and bold with huge red fruit, cherry, strawberry, raspberry, and cranberry. Anise, oak, menthol, and leather as well. Moderate plus tannins, high alcohol, and high acid. Too hot to drink without big, spicy protein. Would match well with bbq pork ribs. — 6 years ago

Our trips to the Carmel/Monterey area are not complete without tasting at Wrath, buying cheese next door at the cheese shop and a short drive to Pâtisserie Bechler in Pacific Grove.

Stella di Campalto Podere San Giuseppe

Riserva Brunello di Montalcino Sangiovese 2015

Consider it an intoxicated decision that I brought this bottle for a boys night out… Intoxicated on the high of Stella’s stellar Rosso a couple of nights ago that is. And given how displeased my wife was when informed that it was the only bottle we had, you could say this was a misjudged decision. It was great though - clearly cut from the same cloth as the Rosso but with extra depth, the Brunello soared with a bouquet of fresh flowers, strawberries, cherries, exotic spices, and hints of vanilla, followed by an incredible robust-yet-airy palate, with a mineral undertow and an elegant silky texture only found in the finest of Burgundy. But the question remains - was it great enough to warrant the wrath of a woman? Thankfully, I was never granted the “privilege” to find out. Call it husbandly smarts, but I was sensible enough to spare a couple of glasses for the wife that evening, and was quick to secure more bottles from the importer. — 4 years ago

I am excited for you discovery, i remember the feeling of when i first met her wine, i am all the way agree with your wife. You should look at some of my notes on her wines. I happen to have family from Tuscany even though born and bred in Rome and the sangio is indeed a very special grape.. i must admit quite hard to understand perhaps for the fact that there is so much bad sangio around, but after you taste Stella or Soldera or Salvioni or a old Poggio di Sotto(before 2007) you will understand what is all the fuss about, why brunello or some chianti or Nobile or even supertuscans are there in the gotha of the wine world.🙏
I apologise to invade your space😅
Cheers and enjoy🍷

@Ceccherini Cristiano Oh don’t apologise. Always appreciate a good convo on wines. Admittedly, I’ve never really geeked on Brunello, let alone sangio… though as you say, it isn’t really hard to see it’s greatness. Stella’s an exception of course, which I’ve been acquainted with for a couple of vintages now. Haha. Only thing I wonder is how they’d age - they’re so hard to keep my hands off, and there’s of course a much smaller library of older vintages compared to the region’s legacy producers. This release is the same… it is just wildly delicious to drink now! Having said all that, I’ve had the privilege of a couple of lovely run-ins with some great Brunello producers courtesy of friends. Haha. Soldera still eludes me though. Great tip on the Poggio!
