Château Pontet Teyssier

Château Pontet-Canet

Pauillac Red Bordeaux Blend 2010

2010 vintage. Decanted and tasted immediately. Lean and mean. Medium body but only because of the concentration. Dark fruits and plenty of espresso influence evident. Slightly less delicate than other P-C efforts fortunate enuff to taste. Tighter than the outstanding 2009 upon initial impressions. Needed more time to coddle this one but couldn't carve it out. 6.20.26. — 5 days ago

I might have exited the planet by the time the well made 2010 Bordeaux’s peak.

Château Teyssier

Cuvée d'Exception Puisseguin St. Émilion Red Bordeaux Blend 2022

2022 vintage. A very serious wine for the price. Mainly Merlot, with some Cabernet Franc. Needs a bit of time to open up. Blackberries and spicy oak. Quite powerful and extracted. I would prefer a bit more finesse, but a solid effort for the price. — 5 months ago

This rocked! Refined yet complex. 1hr+ decant. Dark red color. Dark, sweet cherries on the nose. On the palate it reminded me of Pontet Canet and Gargiulo. Fairly big, deep wine. Ample sweetness = dessert in a glass! — a year ago

This was awesome! PnP’d. Very balanced wine. Medium plus depth. Integrated dark blue and black fruit with oak, vanilla, and cedar. Somewhat similar to Pontet Canet. Lovely silky texture and medium plus finish. Exactly how Napa Cab should taste! — 4 years ago

Château Grand-Pontet

Saint-Émilion Red Bordeaux Blend 2019

Château Grand-Pontet Grand Cru Classé 2019, Saint-Émilion, Bordeaux, France 🇫🇷

Overview
A structured Saint-Émilion Grand Cru Classé. The 2019 vintage is a blend of 77.5% Merlot, 17.5% Cabernet Franc, and 5% Malbec, showing a more classical Right Bank profile with emphasis on structure and finesse rather than overt plushness.

Aromas & Flavors
Black cherry, cassis, dark plum, graphite, cedar, and subtle baking spice. As the wine opens, layers of cocoa, tobacco leaf, and earthy minerality begin to emerge.

Mouthfeel
Medium-to-full bodied with refined structure and beautifully integrated tannins. After extended decanting, the tannins become silky and the palate reveals impressive balance with a superb, polished texture.

Food Pairings
Roast lamb, beef tenderloin, duck breast, mushroom risotto, or aged hard cheeses.

Verdict
A refined and structured Saint-Émilion that showcases the elegance of the 2019 vintage. Balanced, layered, and already showing impressive harmony while still capable of further evolution.

Did You Know?
Unlike the fixed 1855 Bordeaux classification, the Saint-Émilion classification is periodically revised, meaning estates can move up or down depending on quality and vineyard performance.

🍷 Personal Pick
A beautifully composed Saint-Émilion with remarkable texture and finesse. After proper decanting (+2hrs), it shows silky tannins and impressive balance, already entering a very enjoyable drinking now window.

Saint-Émilion Red Bordeaux Blend 2018

Wow what a good value-priced St. Emmie. Detailed nose has cedar, green herbs, stony minerals, and, of course, deep plummy fruit (yay Merlot!). Soft and mouthfillingly textured, but it’s got nice balance. Rich fruit initially on the palate but turns savory on a very long tail. Really nice flavor intensity and persistence. Lots of integrated soft, chalky tannin will help this stay the course for several more years, but it’s delicious now. — 9 months ago

1hr+ decant. Lovely dark red/purple color. Still has years left in it. Blue fruit with cedar and car exhaust (in a good way!). Well integrated as only Paul can do. So definitive I could guess this blind every time. Love it! Medium plus depth and finish. Would love to try this side by side with Pontet Canet. This rocks!! — 2 years ago

Neal never stops impressing!!! Would have guessed Bordeaux all the way. 1hr+ decant. Nose of dark cherries, cedar, and menthol. Blue and black fruit on the palate with well integrated alcohol. Medium depth and medium plus finish. Reminds me of Chateau Pontet-Canet but 1/5 of the price. Neal rocks!! — 4 years ago

PnP’d. Should have given an hour decant. Medium red color. Is a cross between Pinot, Cab, and a Spanish red. Mix the Aubert Pinot I had the other night and Pontet Canet and you get close. Bright red fruit with plenty of oak. Perfect drinking age!! What a great gift and surprise!! Thanks Malcolm! — 5 years ago

Les Asteries Saint-Émilion Red Bordeaux Blend 2008

This is a big and burly Saint-Emilion. Dense, concentrated, yet balanced. Lots of (soft and ripe) tannines, leather, coffee, dark plums, touch of cassis, polished furniture, humidor, smoky notes of grilled greens.
Very, very nice.
Bought this in 2014 chez Maltus, during my first Primeur-visit.

Château Latour

Le Pauillac de Chateau Latour Red Bordeaux Blend 2016

J. Kim
9.1

The 2016 has rounder fatter fruit and less angular architecture than the 2010, and more intense structure than the 2015. The aroma is a classic old school Pauillac, black fruit, tobacco, cigar box and graphite, on top of leathery barnyard bass notes that one often finds in old Lynch Bages or Pontet Canet. More masculine than feminine with lack of vanilla and minty notes. No overripeness, over-oakiness, over-manipulation this year. Type IV Bordeaux in which the aromatic complexity and the structural intensity is well-matched. Less polish this year but the balance between the presence and the reserve is so well-judged. — 4 years ago

World's End

If Six Was Nine Reserve Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2010

Dense ruby red with light purple flecks. A wide brim with clear signs of bricking. The nose is certainly not tired with plenty of black olives, licorice, and chocolate cake. Old leather and coffee with dried cherries and plums. A little fat from the grill too just to make it even better.

The American project from Jonathan Maltus of Chateau Teyssier and baby, this is not your standard copy and paste Napa Cab. This is some serious stuff. Big but not huge. Full of depth but not ponderous. Rich and full throttled but not a mess of indistinct fruit. The ripeness of the fruit never crosses the line. Pronounced fruit on the palate with hedonistic cherries and explosive blue fruits. Beautiful vegetal notes along with a burst of green forest. Firm tannins and long finish. Starting to show its age a little so drink them if you got them. I’m not sure these wines are made anymore so if you see any, get them all.

Lacroix

Bordeaux Superieur Red Bordeaux Blend 2016

2016 vintage. Selected by Jonathan Maltus (Le Dôme, Teyssier and other Saint-Emilions + World's End in Napa Valley), this is a Merlot-driven Bordeaux Supérieur, in a lightly oaked blend with Cabernet Franc. Red cherries and strawberry jam with just a hint of oak. Juicy and ripe sweet red fruit, soft tannin and good length. Nice value at 11 euro. Has an old-world-meets-new-world feel about it. Who said Bordeaux isn't sexy? Abv. 13%. Well done again Mr. Maltus! — 6 years ago
