vintage 2016 | 80% nebbiolo, 15% vespolina, 5% croatina. Ten years old and fully alive and kicking. Brownish colour, tertiairy tones in smell. Very good balance, integrated tannines. I loved the bouquet: stinky in the positive way, spices, stewed fruit. A hint of manure. A Piëmonte nebbiolo that I like. Paired with a lasagne. — 2 months ago
Sergio Zenato and his wife Carla began to produce quality wines from an indigenous varietal, Trebbiano di Lugana, and passed down through the generations. A blend of 80% Corvina, 10% Rondinella, 10% Oseleta and Croatina. Medium Ruby with aromas of dried berry fruits, sweet and smoky notes with pleasant herb spice. On the palate flavors of ripe currants and sweet blackberries with cacao, spice, oak and nutty tones. Fine tannins, long complex finish ending slightly creamy with cedar notes. Starting to drink well now, enjoy over next 4-5 years. — 5 years ago
One of the good bottles, and a beautiful reminder of why old Alto Piemonte is magic. Gorgeous mature nose of moss, seaweed, red roses, desiccated cherry, loam, chestnut, dried leaves and bark, with that old Nebbiolo road-tar thing hovering underneath. Palate still has real charge and life, with surprisingly youthful fruit, juicy cherry on the finish, and big 1989 structure, but the tannins are integrated and carrying the wine beautifully. Not refined like great Barolo or Barbaresco, but soulful, wild, alive, and deeply compelling. With air, the wine is getting more integrated and more beautiful. The nose has moved into that old Nebbiolo caramelized/seared register, with the desiccated cherry, roses, loam, moss, bark and chestnut now feeling deeper and more fused. The palate is gaining finesse, but this is not polished or refined in a Barolo/Barbaresco way. It is old Alto Piemonte: high-acid 1989 structure, big but integrated tannins, gorgeous fruit, and that wild, soulful mountain Nebbiolo charge still running through it. Still 9.4, maybe nudging higher if it keeps knitting together. — 23 days ago
Absolutely delicious. Last had a bit under 4 years ago and the age has served this well, though honestly this could use still more time. Opened for 3 hours and decanted for 1.5, which worked well. Beautiful dark aromatics on the nose. Intensity of fruit on the palate with a long acid driven finish. Tannins are still quite present but with pork chops with a mustardy sauce this paired nicely. Really enjoyed. — 4 months ago

Made from 50% Nebbiolo, 40% Croatina, and 10% Vespolina. Light bodied with high acidity. This is a tasty red blend from Alto Piemonte. Cherry and strawberry flavors come through initially on the palate, followed by orange zest, slight hints of cinnamon and bay leaf, and a strong mineral backbone. Tasty, persistent finish. The fruit flavors are exuberant and really dominate initially. Over time the other flavors come out a bit more. This is the 2024 vintage. — 2 months ago

Classic old-style lighter Valpo. Cherry, almond, bitter herbs, and gravel on the nose. Bright and almost ethereally textured on the flowing palate. Nice acids, and a slightly bitterish cleansing close. Imperfect? No, perfect. (The 9.3 doesn’t reflect that this is as complex or complete a wine as, say, a Burgundy or Napa Cab to which I might give the same rating, but that it is exactly what it is supposed to be and I’m enjoying it for that.) — 10 months ago
