Intense, complex wine with dark, almost austere fruit with lingering, grippy finish. All in harmony. — a month ago

Bovale Utiel-Requena Old Vines Bobal 2019

Nicely made and exuding character. Nose has bright, deep plummy fruit, along with nice, fragrant spice and a wisp of smoke. Mouthfilling, pure fruit on the palate, with a light touch, finish turns savory and shows lots of stony minerality. Nice acids and a bit of soft, chalky tannin comes out at the end. Terrific value. — 5 years ago

Ruination Double IPA

Surprisingly, I kinda liked this despite my aversion to overly-hopped beers. The nose is a straight up hop-bomb - floral, citrusy, piney. The palate's also full-on, with heaps of hoppy bitterness, but balanced by malty sweetness and tropical fruit notes (passionfruit and mango for me). Finishes crisp and earthy. Not bad, but not my kind of beer (not an IPA fan basically). — 7 years ago

Barolo del Comune di Monforte'Alba Barolo Nebbiolo 2019

2019 vintage. Last tasted two years ago 4.3.24 (9.4). Dusty, decaying rose petals in the nose with a hint of quality dark chocolate. Medium body. Pink peppercorns aplenty, some tar, some grilled green onion, orange citrus influence (tangerine?) and Luxardo cherry reduction in the flavors. Only 4 bottles left on the list at $125 a bottle. May hafta take it off the list and buy it all. Currently occupying that weird Barolo space between drinkability and don't you dare. Flashing those tannic, Wolverine adamantium claws now. Leaning more towards the don't even think about it, Bub. This was delicious tho. 4.6.26. — 3 months ago

Castillo de San Diego Palomino Fina 2021

8.9

ask the wine guy for something unusual, something off the beaten path and he recommends this delicious dry 100% Palomino w/some bottle age: definitely a food wine, light greenish straw color w/fairly austere nose full of minerals, lanolin, herbaceous musk, white flowers (jasmine), ginger & some spices. on palate it is rigid & angular, zesty acidity, some citrus but mostly minerals & herbs, quinine, screams for briny foods - we had this w/deli section fare & salad. — 8 months ago

Los Pilares

Grenache Carignan Blend 2013

Los Pilares San Diego County Red Blend 2013: Fresh. Natural. Extraordinary. Consisting of 50% Grenache & 50% Carignan, this was a light-bodied, extremely unique wine. Red fruits (cranberry & cherry). Plum. Earth. Short finish. For me, the wine was a bit thin on structure but very clean & natural tasting. This was my first San Diego County wine and it left me quite intrigued & impressed. Hoping to explore other San Diego wines in the near future. Cheers🍷 — 5 years ago

Barolo Nebbiolo 2020

Popped and poured; enjoyed over the course of a couple hours. The 2020 pours a deep garnet color with a translucent core; medium+ viscosity with no staining of the tears. On the nose, the wine is developing with notes of ripe and tart fruits: Morello cherry, raspberry, cranberry, roses, tar, cool spices and dry earth. On the palate, the wine is dry with high tannin and medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is medium+. I found this bottle to be a little shy for the first 30min or so but opened up nicely by the end of our meal. Drink now through 2040. — 7 months ago
