Gorgeous stuff and the new top St. Joseph at Alexandrins. Nose is awesome. Floral and complex with such lift. Bittersweet cocoa, granite, almost an old school Bordeaux vibe, totally classy and classic. Really compelling. So complex and almost dizzying. Smokey and spicey as well. Wow. Palate is ripe and insanely juicy with extremely clean and classy black fruits that are ultra vivid and pure. Such great cut and length. Unreal tannins and minerality but all framed by top notch elegance. A great wine. Really concentrated and dense. Just explosive. Tiny berry intensity. — 3 years ago
Pop and pour. I like my Viognier a little more floral. That being said, this is still a ovely example. On the nose: soft herbs, pollen, maybe soft dried wildflowers. On the palate: good acidity, lovely density, maybe slightly advanced with lemon, dried herbs and cucumber on the palate. Not oxidized, but just lacking lift. — 4 years ago
Excellent, bon goût de Syrah. Puissant et fruité. — 5 years ago
It’s the colour of dark roses and blood. Lovely perfumed aroma with a hint of fragrant plums. Some flowers (maybe roses and lilacs?). Flavor is earthy with lots of leather, but it’s lithe and smoother than I expected from 100% Syrah. Plenty of tannins in there. Feel them on the tongue, teeth and lip. It’s an elegant, pretty wine. Clean and easy to enjoy. If it was a bit stranger and more complex it’d be stunning. At the price point of around $20 it’s great for a night with friends talking and enjoying the joy of wine. — 6 years ago
The start is dry, but tart red fruit and spice quickly kick in and linger through the medium acid finish. A nicely balanced red with nice oak notes and dried cranberry predominate from mid-palate on. — 7 years ago
2020 vintage. Tasted via Coravin around 72 degrees. Great frontal richness and mid-palate was in the moment and present. An 8.9. Finish dropped off substantially tho. Took it home, chilled it down to 60 degrees and popped it. All the difference as the wine gained weight and rang true throughout. Could taste the craft and love. 8.28.24. — 2 years ago
What a wine. One of the finest in Crozes today. Nose is smokey, leathery and full of deep blackberry fruit. Tons of granite and stones. Some nice black and kalamata olive but needs air to express itself. But this is ultra serious. Palate is deep, dark and ripe but so elegant and nimble with astonishing purity. A bit closed now as many 19’s are but wonderful, ripe and mouth coating tannins. Man the tannins are so fine here. Tiny berry intensity but also a bit acrid as it’s closed and there is so much material. Burst of freshness on the finish but this is need of mega air. 9.3 for now but will ride with air. Man the fruit is so dark on this one but also squishy in a good way. With air nose is becoming confectionary. Smells like purple cotton candy. Really coming into its own. Palate is getting silkier but it has a ways to go. This is barely opening and seems to be a “tomorrow” wine. — 3 years ago
Awesome aromas. Dark blackberries. Game. Meat. Olives. Garrigue. Smells thiccc! Wow what pure blackberry fruit. Palate is so good. Hedonistic Syrah fruit with huge crushing tannins that are perfectly ripe. This is a big boy. So slippery and sexy though. Amazing finish that is highly detailed and delineated. This is a blackberry bomb though at this early stage. Love it. Massive concentration and fruit soak. Awesome velvety and sweet tannins. Mineral/granite tinged finish. But needs air. As this airs the granite really comes through on the nose. Love these wines. — 4 years ago
Maybe there aren’t any bottles floating around anymore, but I got lucky and snagged one. This is super juicy Tannat, which is not something I ever thought I’d say or hear. Dried cherries, super ripe plums, some underripe blueberry, a bit of funk on the nose. Graphite and leather too. There’s still great acidity which makes this gulpable. it’s an interesting wine, this mixture of dried fruits but bright and juicy acidity feels like it should be two different wines, but it’s not in any way disjointed or threadbare. It’s just got serious backbone, and long tannins. Like a northern Rhône Syrah without the floral aspects. It’s slightly meaty and spicy when first opened. The empty glass is restrained but all violet. I wish I could’ve had this a couple of years ago but it’s still really lifted yet soft tonight. — 6 years ago
Really very nice. Was a bit worried that the 2018 wouldn’t drink that well, but decided to pair it with some delicious balsamic bbq glazed spare ribs I made. Held up very well. Still get the classic northern Rhone Syrah profile, but with enough generosity of fruit to stand up to the food. Quite nice indeed. — a year ago
I love Hermitage Blanc. Old, young or middle aged I love it. So unique and I also like how polarizing White Rhone is amongst wine lovers.
Nose is intense Marsanne in all it’s unbridled glory. That almost feral, medicinal minerality. It’s so high toned and pierces one’s nostril. Yellow fruits galore but angles. Maybe they will get more gras as it airs. Likely. Palate is so intense. Unctuous and intense but floats as it’s so elegant. Great concentration and mineral sweetness and just insane freshness from the granite soils. This reminds me of Puligny Referts today. It’s so long and regal. Amazing fruit presence. Masterful. — 3 years ago
Had at Vic & Anthony’s. Excellent wine with well balanced smoothness and tannins. Not overly fruity, still very bold — 3 years ago
Aged three years! Catchy simple European label with screw-top convenience. Pours a light golden color. Smells like 🍋. Lemon sparkling waters. Flavors are excellent. Bitter bite of citrus peels, minerals too. Crisp as all get up. This is French style white wine. No sweetness, no oak butter, no bigness. Just dry, austere and brightly flavored. Would be fun to try beside CA Viogniers. Just to compare. I’d drink this again. Hot weather, white for sure. — 4 years ago
Light and easy going with a bit of leather. Kind of like that s&m club in downtown Cleveland. — 6 years ago
Decent syrah, had this at Bistro 45 with Parsons bord of directors. Decent but nothing amazing — 6 years ago
Simply awesome. Nose of ripe blackberry, almost a coulis, lovely granite and olive and smoke. Gorgeous. So pure and deep. Rich and ripe with beautiful pure blackberry and raspberry fruit and loaded with granite, smoke and olive. Elegant and velvety tannins and terrific acidity and freshness. — 7 years ago
