This was a weird one for me. A perfect kabi in every sense - pure, fruity, complex, saline, and just dancing on the palate, but I just can’t help but feel that something was missing. Frankly it’s hard to put a finger on it, but it was especially apparent when compared with the Egon kabi. Despite being the better kabi from the get-go (better balance, more finesse), the Ohligsberg Alte Reben kabi lacked a sort of dimension the Egon had… a special something… even “dirt”. Is it terrior? It felt almost “artificially perfect”. Hard to explain, but it may well be just too young to come to a conclusion at this stage. Time will tell. Having said all that, it was still a wine that made me very happy drinking. Pure energy! — 4 years ago

Today I have decided to go to my cellar and pull the 2012 Domaine Berrien Cellars Crown of Cab. One of the best winery's in Southwest Michigan if not the best. This is a Bordeaux blend of 40% Merlot, 28% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Cabernet Franc, 5% Petit Verdot and 2% Malbec. What a wine from Wally Mauer and the Domaine Berrien winery.
On the nose there is black cherry, blackberry, black plum, black currant, anise, violet, baking spice and crushed gravel.
On the palate I am getting black cherry, blackberries, green bell pepper, black currant, violet, black pepper, graphite and earth.
This wine is full bodied with a smooth mouthfeel, medium to medium + acidity and medium + grippy mouthcoating tannins that leaves you with a long black fruit woodsy finish. What a wonderful Sunday wine. This winery in Southwest Michigan is my absolute favorite and can compete with any California winery out there. I hope everyone's weekend has been an eventful one. Please stay safe and healthy and have a wonderful week ahead. Nostrovia! 🍷🍷🍷🍷 — 5 years ago
Better than the 16' Egon Kabi I feel. It's just so playful, deep, and incisive, with Grunhaus' trademark lightness. The nose feels really cool - smoke, mint, fresh cut herbs, sea breeze, citrus oil, cassis, and lime. As usual, the palate's very juicy and long. Leaves you craving for the next pour. Sadly, I brought a 750 ml to a 10 people dinner. Dream pairing with crispy roasted suckling pig though 🤤 — 7 years ago

2024 vintage. A fave, cheap chicken domestic white. Equal Riesling and Grüner parts blend. Riper than the last few vintages but still absolutely delicious. $12.50 resto cost so retail should run you less than $25 a bottle. Screwcap picnic/party starter, warm weather joose. 5.30.26. — a month ago
