Good nose. Needs aeration. Some length to the flavor profile. Berry and some vanilla. Dusty. — 7 years ago
Pretty darn close to old school Napa. — 3 years ago
This is the Artazu Pasos de San Martin Navarra, a varietal Garnacha. A bit sleepy before it gets air, it gradually Benjamin Buttons and develops a terrifically pure nose of kirsch and raspberry ooze, along with crushed rock dust and sandalwood. In the mouth it’s got intense fruit, but is laser-focused and has excellent acids. Zero flab.
Just enough tannin to package it all. Really nice rendition of Grenache. — 4 years ago

100% Grenache from Madrid. Huge on the organics. Smoke, Earth and rubber on the nose. Earthy and minerals on the pallet. Jammy Fruit notes are prevalent on the mid-pallet. Complex and bold. Best with food. Quite a unique expression of an Old World wine. — 7 years ago
The 2014 ‘Villa de Corullon’ by Bodega Palacios is a superb showing from this storied Bierzo estate. Sourced 50-100 year old Mencia vines from the municipality of Corullon, just south of San Martin, this incredible new wine shows really good aromatic range, from white pepper and vegetal tones to black tea, black currant purée and exotic spices that all are marvelously woven together in the glass. Beautifully textured, the wine shows off a soft and inviting mouthfeel. Chinese black tea, wild blackberry preserves and suggestions of pipe tobacco and leather all come together on the palate. Hugely enjoyable in its youth, this outstanding wine will cellar well for the next fifteen years. Drink 2019-2035- 93 — 7 years ago
11 years in and still green. Blows off after 2 hrs decant and is a lovely Cabernet underneath. More closely related to Bordeaux than California. — 4 years ago
Often times lacking the acidity and tensions found in other countries, this is a beautiful example@of American riesling. While it shouldn’t be compared to a German Riesling for example, this still has a powerful presence. A bit more round but it’s enveloping. Very good stuff from a really good dude! — 5 years ago
Another sleeper white hit from #wsjwineclub. True to the label art, this #garnachablanca is perfumed with jasmine and gardenia. Green apple and citrus acidity present on the palate with a delightful almost spicy zing on the finish - this one disappears fast out of the glass. I’d like to try it with some slightly spicy food next time. — 7 years ago
Casa de San Martin. David’s recommendation. Great white — 7 years ago

2015 vintage. Light-medium/medium body. Elegant with just the right mix of primary and secondary characteristics currently. Some earthy tones, some pretty tones. Picked up 3 cases for an affordable ($35 a btl) domestic Cab with a decade of age on it. 2013 effort (not reviewed) had a slightly, off-putting, prunish note on the finish that wouldn’t leave the party so passed on it and went with this instead. 3.11.26. — 3 months ago
