Lafleur Laroze

Château Lafleur

Pomerol Red Bordeaux Blend 2006

Very dark and vivid rubi robe, nose of blackcurrant, cedar wood, top soil and spices. Medium bodied, crushed flowers, mint, liquorice, a kaleidoscopic mouth with great length. A fantastic bottle on a small vintage. Top notch ! — 15 days ago

Château Laroze

St. Émilion Grand Cru Red Bordeaux Blend 2009

9.3

The first thing I would say about the bottle is if served blind, most…including me would not gravitate to St.Emilion. Some might go Napa Cabernet here it is so ripe. I think it rides the fence of 65% Napa Cabernet & 35% Pauillac.

The second thing I would say it definitely shows the beauty of the 2009 vintage. This will be even more amazing in 8-10 yrs.

This is as ripe of a Bordeaux that I’ve had since the 2003 vintage. Maybe, more so at least here.

M+ velvety yet chunky tannins. Ripe, lush, ruby; blackberries, black raspberries, black plum skin, black cherries, blueberries, boysenberries, strawberries, sweet tarriness, black licorice, baking spices, dry tobacco, lead pencil shavings. Leather, dark cola, dark chocolate baking bar, dry top soils, limestone, dark rich earth, river stone pebbles, touch of black pepper, oak barrel shavings, dry tea leaves, hint of mint, mix of fresh, candied & withering; dark, red, blue flowers framed in liquid violets & lavender, round acidity with balance, nice structure & tension, lush elegance for days and lands on fruits & earthiness lasting two-minutes.

These are not easy notes on a turbulent EK226.

I love 21. Utterly classic but young nose of red berries, granite and a youthful grapiness. Some florals as well but a bit of a monolith aromatically out of the gates. More notes later as it opens up on the nose. Palate is so elegant my goodness and has that youthful grapiness. Huge red and darker berry fruit, perfect balance, clarity and purity. So juicy and clean but young but obviously very high quality. More notes as it evolves. Nose now closed at 3 hours but palate has gained finesse and it’s ultra juicy and pure. Finish is clipped but this is the whole package. This has a semi opulent midpalate one can get lost in. Wow. Incredible decadent Pomerol (lafleur?) fruit. Just insane. So elegant. This is the best Burgaud ever. — 3 years ago

Great stuff and ready to drink. Same touch (and family) of Clos Rougeard, but price tag is less than a third. Still expensive but great bottle. Cabernet Franc better than that you need to tap at Chateau Cheval Blanc or Chateau Lafleur… — a month ago

Pomerol Red Bordeaux Blend 2012

Nice second wine from pomerol! My understanding is that this is 54/46 Merlot / cab franc. You certainly get the cab franc characteristics on the nose and palate. Just starting to veer into secondary but still has great primary fruit with a nice vein of acid cutting through everything. Opened 4 hours and decanted 1 hour before which was the right call. Very nice pairing with double R ranch prime strip steaks on a blizzard day in nyc. — 5 months ago

Couvent des Jacobins

St. Émilion Grand Cru Red Bordeaux Blend 2016

The 2016 Couvent des Jacobins starts to deliver, even if it is nowhere near its peak. Long time in the shadow of the excellent 2015, it shows now that it is in the same league. Totally outperforming fellow Cru Classé Château Laroze 2016 tasted alongside, with more depth and freshness. — 2 years ago

Pauillac Red Bordeaux Blend 2020

Delectable Wine
9.1

The 2020 Bellegrave is well-defined and poised on the nose, blackberry and briary, hints of truffle unfolding with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied with a graphite-infused entry. Quite solid and structured, almost like a "mini-Lafleur", with a well-defined and persistent finish that has splendid mineralité. Very fine. (Neal Martin, Vinous, February 2023) — 3 years ago

Clos Vougeot Grand Cru Pinot Noir 2012

2012 vintage. Decanted and tasted after 30 minutes. Medium/medium-heavy body. Plenty of rhubarb, raspberry, cranberry and pomegranate impressions/power with some tannic, tea-flavored structure currently. Starting to harmonize and truly integrate. Drinking well now but expecting this to really hit all the high notes in the next 7-10 years. Two bottles left. 2.25.25. — 4 months ago

Pétrus

Pomerol Red Bordeaux Blend 1970

Tasted blind. It was evident that this was mature Bordeaux at its finest quality level from an excellent vintage. The absence of brettanyomces and a right bank aroma profile pointed towards Lafleur or Petrus. Deliciously ripe and dried red fruits mingle with black truffle, cocoa powder, forest floor and cigar box. Gently caressing the palate, the 1970 Château Petrus delivers a full-body, velvety tannins, a core of dried red fruits and a long, lingering finish. Probably slightly past it's peak, but still spectacular. Drink now. — 4 years ago
