Le Raisin A Plume

Punta di Villa Amarone della Valpolicella Classico Corvina Blend 2006

My first Amarone was this 2006. 20 years age might just be the sweet spot. Deep, dark, inky garnet with fig, prune, raisin on the nose. Smooth texture, ripe tannins, more dark fruit on the pallet leaning into tertiary notes. Shared in my wine class how the Appassimento method is used to dry the grapes, concentrating the flavors prior to fermentation. This was a treat for all of us. — 5 months ago

Capitel de Roari Amarone della Valpolicella Classico Corvina Blend 2016

Best wine I’ve had in a while. Liquid raisin! Smells like oak, campfire, and raisin. Tannic and astringent but full bodied with some sweetness-almost port-like. Definitely not cheap but also not the most expensive wine on the shelf. 100% worth it. Enjoyed with bolognese. Would love to have again — 4 years ago

10 Years Old Tawny Porto Port Blend

Amber golden color with aromas of sweet dried fruits and nutty citrus notes. On the palate sweet ripe fruit in a nutty oak wrapper, some vanilla and ending with a raisin and fig aftertaste. Smooth, consistent. Nice! — 6 years ago

Amarone della Valpolicella Classico Corvina Blend 2010

Always treat yourself to a good birthday wine from your rack!

A huge nose of raisin and prune, as to be expected with both an aged wine, and one of this method.
Huge body, with hints of mint, touches of older, dried herbs. The fruit in this is dark cherry, roast peach, olive oil.
Totally worth aging these. Yum!
Light, gritty tannin all the way through, with the perfect pitch of acidity to counteract the fruit.

50th wedding anniversary! Tasting great. I’m shocked at the cherry fruit that is still vibrant, a lot of raisin, wood, caramel, vanilla, tobacco leaf. So surprised at how good this is tasting — a year ago

Palazzo della Torre Veronese Corvina Blend 2018

Delectable Wine
9.0

The 2018 Palazzo della Torre comes to life in the glass with a vibrant mix of balsam herbs, black cherries and cloves. It’s cool-toned in feel, yet silky and stacked with dark fruits and exotic spices. A tantalizing mix of zesty acids and minerals keeps the energy high, as the 2018 tapers off potent yet completely balanced and fresh. The Palazzo della Torre is fantastic, especially at this price point. After tasting the 2017 last year, I was a little worried about a stylistic change, but talk about making a comeback. This is a mix of Corvina Veronese, Corvinone, Rondinella and Sangiovese, where a small portion of the grapes are left to raisin for three months prior to vinification. Clos de los Siete Malbec Blend 2015

A delicious blend of mostly Malbec, Merlot & Cabernet Sauvignon. The Malbec initially takes center stage with classic aromas of black cherry, raisin, & sweet tobacco. Full bodied on the pallate but the Merlot definitely mellows the wine as it has medium well integrated tannins along with flavors of blackberry, baking spices & vanilla. aired nicely with NY strip streaks & grilled asparagus! Vigneto Monte Lodoletta Valpolicella Superiore Corvina Blend 2012

The nose is enticing dark fruit and oak. Grippy tannins on the palate with tobacco, prune, oak, leather, and raisin notes that explode through mid-palate. The finish thrusts forward with acid in spades. This wine is a steamroller. — 7 years ago

Conti Costanti

Brunello di Montalcino Sangiovese 2010

Deep garnet with a tawny rim. A savoury earthy mushroom note coming through - also balsamic notes. Fading red cherry on the palate. An excellent Brunello from a good vintage, travelling well at 15 years. A fabulous food wine with homemade fettuccine. I will probably drink my last bottle in 2027/28 although I have a drinking window through to the early 2030s. I ended up having my last bottle on 22 June 2026 with consistent notes. This really was an excellent Brunello. Towards the end of the bottle it showed aromas of dried fruit like raisin. — 9 months ago

Château Lanessan

Haut-Médoc Red Bordeaux Blend 2016

Poured through an aerator and sat for 15 minutes…

NOSE: strong, clear cassis. Meat. Pine, forest. Very mild chocolate and a little ash - and some raisin - but the cassis dominates.

Taste: medium weight, elegant, fruity bordeaux, with enough tannin to balance it perfectly - as on the nose, cassis and dark berry flavors dominate, but with a good herbal backbone. Simpler than I’d hoped, but just so very well made it doesn’t matter. Would love to taste this in a few years. 92.

2003 vintage. Rich, silky, still quite youthful. Rum raisin, stewed cherry, raspberry coulis, dark cocoa, chocolate-covered espresso bean, something a little medicinal, harsher manifestation of cinnamon, bark. — 4 years ago

Château de Beaucastel

Châteauneuf-du-Pape Red Rhône Blend 1999

Tar, raisin, soaked fig, cherry pit, wilted violet, hung meat, boudin noir, leather, cinnamon, cocoa powder, honey, truffle, scorched earth, roasted herbs, camphor, black tea. Wears the vintage well. More moderate frame (relatively speaking) showing some consistent grip throughout, surprised by the acid support this has, makes for a plausible argument about whether or not to continue aging. So tertiary and savory right now. — 7 years ago
