Aligote: the oft maligned & forgotten white grape of Burgundy - I've had mixed results over the years, but this was the best i've ever tasted. some age darkened this up w/deeper yellow & greenish hues overlaid with straw. complex nose infused w/subtle lingering oak accents boasted mango & guava and a tropical fruit nose, savory, biscuit, herbal, minerals, stale 7up, and some pleasant oxidative notes. palate was suave & rich, silky yet brimming w/acidity mingling nicely with our salad & smoked salmon. — 8 months ago
La Bourgondie (Vignerons Coopérateurs) – Bourgogne Chardonnay – 2023
Bourgogne AOC – Burgundy – France 🇫🇷
Overview
100% Chardonnay from the broader Bourgogne AOC, crafted by La Bourgondie, a cooperative based in Saint-Bris-le-Vineux. This is a straightforward, regional expression aimed at accessibility, yet it surprisingly delivers the classic Burgundian markers: restraint, freshness, and mineral clarity. A reminder that even entry-level Burgundy, when done right, can stay true to its roots.
Aromas & Flavors
Fresh citrus zest, lemon peel, green apple, and white stone fruit lead the way, followed by subtle floral hints and a faint chalky minerality. There’s no overt oak influence, keeping the profile clean and transparent.
Mouthfeel
Light to medium-bodied with crisp acidity and a smooth, linear texture. Balanced and refreshing, with enough structure to feel composed rather than dilute. The finish is clean, gently saline, and quietly persistent.
Food Pairings
Grilled fish, seafood pasta, spring rolls, antipasti, white meats, mild cheeses, or simply as an aperitif. Extremely versatile at the table.
Verdict
A pleasantly surprising regional Bourgogne Chardonnay that respects tradition without trying to overperform. Honest, refreshing, and well-balanced, ideal for everyday Burgundy drinking while saving your Premier and Grand Crus for special moments.
🍷 Personal Pick Highlight
I usually avoid Burgundian bottles that put the grape variety front and center — that’s often a red flag for me. But this one proved me wrong. It delivers the fundamental nuances I look for in basic Bourgogne Chardonnay, making it a reliable “casual Burgundy” option when I want authenticity without opening the heavy hitters. — 3 months ago
