Young, with wine poached pear, boysenberry toast, cherry blossom, pomegranate, blood orange rosemary and seared duck. Apples, tea and cinnamon scented. Chewy tannins and tea leaf textures, apple skin, decadent raspberry concentration, pomegranate juice over red currant reduction. Unstoppable fruit here with peppercorn dusting, coffee driving the density to a grainy finish of opulent cherry and chamomiles. Power Pinot.

Double decanted. Notes from 3 hrs open. I am in love with this wine. Stylistically, this is the opposite end of the spectrum from, say, a Louis Latour or Leflaive Corton Charly: this is so vibrant, and lemon drenched mineral, Corton Charlemagne. The nose shows green apple, and lemon curd soaked crushed rock with a very soft nutty note; so intense, I can smell this from a foot away from my glass. On the palate, fantastic dry extract, super-vibrant acid, followed by guava and then lemon and crushed rocks. Excellent weight and a long finish. An acid-head's Corton Charly? Anyway, this is definitely a baby: either needs a very long decant (3hrs at a minimum) or another 3-5 years in bottle. — 7 years ago

White pfeffer cherry stone still holds up 9 years later — 6 months ago
Nose of walking through a warm summer forest. Fresh sweet strawberries on the palate, delicate tannins structure and medium long finish. Nice! — a year ago
Will need a couple of years, but great potential! — 5 years ago

A little VA, but nice savory cherries and earth shine overwhelmingly — 6 months ago
We are drinking the 2018 vintage. Lovely and fragrant bottle of wine with a citrus twist. Went very well with my tuna carpaccio new style. Would highly recommend — 7 years ago

Welp…I didn’t expect to run into the 1999 “La Romanée” again so soon, but the generosity of my brothers in wine is extraordinary so, here we are. For the most part, my previous notes still apply and given that this bottle was part of a special lineup, I find them all the more valid.
This bottle was opened about an hour prior to service. The 1999 “La Romanée” pours a slightly deep ruby with a transparent core; medium viscosity with no staining of the tears. On the nose, the wine is developing and sanguine with black cherry, bruised strawberry, some roasted meat, mushrooms, sous bois and fine spices. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium+ tannin and medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose, the finish is long. Still phenomenal old school GC Burgundy though, not quite as rustic as the 2001 Louis Remy, Latricières-Chambertain from earlier in the day…but certainly more old school than the 2005 DRC Romanée St. Vivant. Can’t believe I got to experience this again. The old drinking window holds true. Drink now with patience and through 2049+. — a day ago
