13% a big Riesling for the area - Rheingau. Quite dieseled aka kerosene already. Nice but a little to simple for me. Mostly mandarine driven. Some tannins. Hint meyer lemon. Seems sweet despite the high. % for a white. — 2 years ago
Nice, nice, nice! Decent fruit and citric minerality in the nose. Some pineapple, sweet mandarine, flower honey flow along the palate with a surprisingly creamy touch. Finishes with a tight and bone dry grip. More! — 3 years ago
#7 of Jura Savoie evening
Amazing nose - dried apricot, sharp lemon acidity, kumquat, pomelo Marmelade, candied Mandarine peel, golden raisins. Amazing. Could smell this forever.
On the palate this shows amazing balance. High sweetness and high acidity with brilliant drinkability and freshness. Great precision and energy. This is soo good!! — 4 years ago
I don’t drink very much cognac and can’t remember when or where I picked up this bottle, but a small pour sounded good to end a cold and snowy day. Light in color. Body feels light at first, but gains viscosity. Spicy, oaky, and a little astringent on the finish. It reminded more of some really good scotch I’ve had than of some slightly sweeter cognacs. I liked it a lot. — 5 years ago
From a Magnum for a small gathering, citrus and mandarine aromas, seashells with nice backbone with a slight roundness and richness, yet easy drinking and delicious, mouth watering salinity, very good.
Magnum pour une petite fête, bord de mer et agrumes, mandarines au nez. Belle acidité, attaque ronde, droit ensuite pour finir sur une salinité qui donne l’eau à la bouche, facile à boire et très bien. — 6 years ago
Beautiful and light on its feet. Dry - very well made! Fantastic fruit. Very fresh. Honey. Meyer lemon, mandarine, just a faint touch of 1,1,6-trimethyl-1,2-dihydronaphthalene (TDN) aka Diesel. Touch bitter on the back palate. As a chemist i just had to bring this up. At 24 suns in Oceanside. 2 Michelin Chefs cooking. Grab this bargain before it is gone!!!!!! — a year ago
Big and broad. Some tartness, meyer lemon, almond, hint mandarine. A little hot 14%. — 2 years ago
Mandarine et autres agrumes, mais aussi pêche blanche. Texture soyeuse. Vraiment extraordinaire. — 3 years ago
Quite closed & shy on the nose upon opening, with a short decant shows ripe pear on sourdough toast, with a healthy pinch of salt. But also expands with time, showing nutmeg, dried mandarine peel, wet pebbles, limestone minerality.
Fresh & incredibly enticing. Quite subtle nonetheless.
On the palate this is a stunner. Intense, structured, with juicy acidity and a almost tannic frame. Ripe pears & apples and loads of minerality, saltiness, savoury edges. Rich yet with great flow, elegant yet with interesting edges. Only the alc (13.5%) could be integrated better, as it slightly sticks out towards the finish.
A brilliant PB and amazing value, too.
Just don’t overchill or it goes bland. — 4 years ago
Nice very Mosel aromatics with the mineral edge dialed up.
Underripe white peach, fresh lemons, slate, moist earth, summer meadow at dawn. Plus a whiff of Mandarine peel and a distinctive salty note.
On the palate this is not as filigrane as the Haart Riesling, with a touch more weight, the fruit riper & more present but the precision here is incredible. The same racy acidity, purity & energy.
Finishes off on a v. long slatey, mineral note.
A brilliant one! — 5 years ago
A proper stinkerl at first, then quite reductive, only after some time starts showing - ripe lemons, baked lemons, poppyseed, a whiff of almond.
Very pure, taut and with amazing energy & flow in the palate - baked lemons, mandarine zest, a touch of saltiness and herbs, a pinch of bacon. This is truly a wonderful wine. — 6 years ago
This is in a fantastic spot. Showing lanolin inflected orange peel and pear fruit with just a hint of earth. Quite viscous on the palate with homies mandarine orange and golden apple fruit. Fat and layered on the finish. — 8 years ago
Popped and poured; enjoyed over the course of three hours. The 2022 “Les Vieux Clos” pours a light golden color with medium+ viscosity. On the nose, the wine is developing with white tree flowers, mandarine oranges, ginger, lanolin and just a touch mousy. On the palate, the wine is slightly off-dry with high acid that’s balanced by the unquestionable quality of the fruit. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is long, wooly and rich. The alcohol is medium+ but should be at all be surprised? Say what you want about Joly’s methods; his wines are never boring. I, for one, adore them. Drink now through 2032 easy. — 2 years ago

Riesling espagnol, nez sur les agrumes citron mandarine, citron vert, qq notes florales, chèvrefeuille. La bouche révèle une belle acidité tranchante! — 3 years ago
Had it with Tony for thanksgiving 2022. “Maybe the best we’ve ever had!” — 4 years ago
Light & floral with bright cherries, violets, crushed red currants plus a whiff of spice & tree. Ram. There’s also a hint of dried Mandarine peel. Very enticing.
On the palate this is quite light, very juicy, wo the great energy & flow. The acidity is bright & lively, the tannins present but juicy and very fine. Nicely focused and with pure, fresh red fruit, crushed rock, brilliant drinkability.
Great value for money. The bottle empties dangerously fast! — 4 years ago
There are some times when the only thing that will suffice is one of the world’s greatest Rieslings. Klaus-Peter Keller @kellerdalsheim is, in my mind, the undisputed master of the Rheinhessen region of Germany. The Keller family has been making wine for 10 generations, and the oldest parcel of Riesling they have has been handed down within the family since 1789. Keller, who apprenticed in Burgundy before studying enology at Geisenheim told me that he looks for “playful elegance” in wine. He wants it to dance on the palate. And I’ve never had a bottle of his wine that hasn’t made ME want to dance. This one marries lemon pith and lemon oil with Asian pear and mandarine orange peel. But all of these flavors are perceived through a quartz-like minerality that evokes the feeling of licking an icicle or exploring a glacial cave. Stunning clarity and incredible acidity makes for a profound glass of mostly-dry Riesling. — 5 years ago
Secret weapon. As the monopole owner of the ‘Clos Napoléon’, Pierre Gelin is the sole producer of this wine. The 1988 has aged BEAUTIFULLY. Mushroom, funk, dusty leather, play second fiddle to pure tart red fruit. Cranberries and tart raspberries. For the price, this is a STEAL. — 6 years ago

See previous notes. Less showy today. From one of the top vineyards in the Pfalz Germany. Quite herbaceous, very racy, coiled. Apricots, not overly acidic, minerals galore. Touch bitter. Sour mandarine. Needs 10 years or so. I would leave this alone for now!!! — 7 months ago
