Benanti

Pietra Marina Etna Bianco Superiore Carricante 2019

🤩 Benanti is an iconic, family run estate with a front-seat majestic view of Etna’s terrain, founded by Giuseppe Benanti in 1988, now carried forward by Giuseppe’s two sons Antonio and Salvino. Preserving the heritage of Etna’s unique terroir, the Benantis devote themselves to making wine with local varieties. 🍇

After delicate pressing, the free-run juice underwent fermentation with an indigenous yeast and aged on the fine lees in stainless steel for 30 months with regular bâtonnage (stirring). 😆

📝 The result is divine with a bouquet of harmonious aromas and flavors featuring ripe papaya, mango, cantaloup, white nectarine, kumquat, bergamot, lemon oil, cherry blossom, cream, toast, gunflint, fresh tarragon, sage, crushed stones, oystershell, sea spray & blanched almond notes.

💫This wine has verve & elegance!

😋 On the palate, it’s dry, with electrifying acidity, a medium body, textured mouthfeel, medium alcohol (12.5% ABV) & persistent finish.

Susucaru Rosato Malvasia Blend 2023

I have been wanting to try this for years and finally got access to his wines without having to drive down to San Diego. Pushed K&L every so often and they finally delivered. This was way better than I expected. I heard he is using sulfur so it’s not as “natural” as before but way more stable. Flavors were light and food friendly. Hint of vinegar to be on the nose but not on the palate. Crowd pleaser. Listening to Action Bronson who alerted me to this wine on That’s Delicious. Bring it back! — 19 days ago

Tenuta delle Terre Nere

Etna Rosso Nerello Mascalese Blend 2023

Nicely concentrated Sicilian red, with muscular tannins backed by deep and dark fruit with somewhat sharp acidity. Reminds me of a young California Central Coast red blend. Nice pairing with red sauce pasta but probably better after four or five years of softening in the bottle. Had the 2023 vintage with Paccheri Lisci (spicy pork sausage sugo, fennel, sage, pecorino) from Jame Enoteca in El Segundo, CA. — 6 days ago
