Pinot Noir Gamay 2022

2022 vintage. 70% Pinot/30% Gamay. Medium-heavy body. Fairly smooth and delicious but $65 a btl resto cost so out of bounds. Intriguing tho. 5.6.26. — 13 days ago

Jérome Coessens

Largillier Blanc de Noirs Brut Champagne Pinot Noir 2015

Talk about a singular expression of Pinot Noir. A pale gold coloring with effusive creaminess and a nice stream of very small bubbles. The aromas are a bit muted upon opening with just a bit of apple goodness to start the show. But let it sit for a while in a larger bowl and you’ll be rewarded. Warm cinnamon and crusty bread. Roasted nuts and blackberries all day long. There’s some fresh cherry and plenty salinity to boot.

Single vintage, single varietal, single vineyard. The hallmark of Jerome Coessens. 100% Pinot Noir from the lieu-dit of Largillier. The fruit hails from the plots that he has dubbed Fruit and Flower and that’s amazingly accurate. The amount of yellow fruit and floral notes are just ethereal in nature. The acidity borders on “racy” but instead settles on “zippy” which is just fine.

The attack is one that is quite pointed and full of finesse. It’s a very generous champagne that grows by leaps and bounds over time in the glass. An abundance of red and yellow fruits along with black pepper and dried herbs. Very fruity on the long finish with an added kick of spice. Singular and gorgeous.

Arterberry Maresh

Maresh Vineyard Pinot Noir 2023

How do I say it with grace, poise, and within the bounds of decorum… The Dundee Hills of Oregon are calling to me. In speaking with my work-make Tommy, who has lived in Oregon and has proven to be a more than reliable source of insight concerning every & anything from Oregon: the Dundee Hills have me. Hell I think he’s warned me more than once about their playful nature yet their powerful foundations… add the 2023 Artberry Maresh ‘Dundee Hills” Pinot Noir out of the Willametter Valley to it all. From the start, the ruby color is mesmerising. The nose seems to wake up with every instance of dropping my own within it. The palate is mildly chewy and lush. As it warms in the glass and starts to tell of its true nature, deep notes of hibiscus and bramble-berry that only expand ring true. — 4 months ago

The second vintage and wow this is stunning. Leaps and bounds better than the 19 and the 19 was a great effort. Nose is buttery and confectionary with stunning mineral depth. Smells almost chevalier or batard like. Hoisted up by its own Batard. Dazzlingly pure and my goodness this is just so ultra refined. Really penetrates my nostrils like the aromas are almost solid objects. Unreal. Palate is deep, rich and bracing. Wow the acidity on this is brilliant with icing on a cake texture and just so refined, classy and long my goodness this is long. So pure and so sappy. Amazingly clean. Just an awesome bottle of St. Aubin. Nose develops wet stones, fresh sea air and lemon drop. The balance here is exceptional. Treacly and elegant. Serious and playful while also being incredibly long. The length here is not to believed. This is one of the finest St. Aubins I’ve ever had. I can’t imagine why this is not a 9.7, but want to see what air can do to this.

Wow the cotton candy confection is just off the charts. Stunning. So clean. So airy. This is what white burgundy is all about. Fruit is coming around. Superb citrus and Meyer lemon. Some lime as well. Rieslingesque.

Chianti Classico Sangiovese 2016

Can’t put this one down.... beautiful nose of dried rose pedal, dusty rainer cherry, coco bean. Earthy. Juicy blackcherry fruit bounds on the palate accented by espresso and cedar box. Cranberry too. Outstanding length with soft, persistent tannins. Great now, only better with cellar age. — 6 years ago

Domaine Lafage

Centenaire Côtes du Roussillon Grenache Blanc Blend 2014

Back story... working in home cellar yesterday... found 6 bottles of this I had forgotten about..paid $12 a bottle about 5 years ago. Thought oh well, try one and toss. Wow! Was I wrong! Color.. still very light lemon yellow. Wonderful floral notes on nose. As the wine warms, it’s round and weighty... still acid driven but round and almost oily. Ripe juicy pear, red apple, and straw. Had the wine with really good veal piccata and buttered, cheesy fettuccine. I need to seek out more of this wine... I remember the reds were very good... but the Grenache Blanc is out-of-bounds. What a steal! Buy this shit in bulk! — 5 years ago
