La Bruja de Rozas Sierra de Gredos Grenache 2023

Thanks to my brother for supplying my first Comando G wine. Till now, I’d only read about them. As a Garnachista, I’ve always wanted to drink one (actually many). This strikes a wonderful balance between the ripeness and friendliness of Grenache fruit and avoidance of any heaviness. In a word, balance. The palate is rich, but balanced and savory. Not super complex but so delicious. — 18 days ago

@Tom Casagrande, so is a “Commando G” a wine drunk while going commando?

@Doug Powers - Ideally, yes. But it’s a family gathering so compromises were made.

Zeta Viñas Viejas de Pegaso Vino de Garnacha 2022

As a Garnachista, I’m embarrassed to say that this, I think, is my first Garnacha from Sierra de Gredos. I may be late to the party but I showed up. Wonderful ripe Grenache fruit, loads of kirsch, a bit of raspberry. Powdered rock dust minerality. It’s a big boy. I broke my “No 15%” rule in buying this. But the alcohol seems balanced. Really nice flavor density. A surprising whack of tannin in the back half of the palate. Lots of savory flavors to augment the fruit. — 9 months ago

4 Monos Vino de la Sierra de Gredos Garnacha Blend 2020

Only red we had paired w Basque tapas & what a pairing. It’s a blend from Outside Madrid- syrah, garnacha, carinena & morenillo , it all hangs together in a loose, fresh style. Not too far removed from a Cru Beaujo. Dark red fruits, surprisingly long & a bit of grip. A ‘ villages level’ from the Spanish version of the Gang of Four. An easy wine easy to like. — 3 years ago

El Tamboril Sierra de Gredos Madrid Garnacha 2020

“El Tamboril” is a tiny, north-facing, high altitude vineyard that produces Garnacha Tinta, Garnacha Blanco and Garnacha Gris. Popped and poured; enjoyed over the course of a couple hours. The 2020 El Tamboril Tinto pours a deep ruby color with a transparent core; medium+ viscosity with no staining of the tears. On the nose, the wine is developing with notes of ripe, fresh Bing cherry, strawberry, red flowers, rocky earth, and a mix of cool and warm spices. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium+ tannin and medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is long. This is a beautiful wine that balances power with elegance about as well as any. Drink now through 2040. — 2 months ago

Bodegas Frontonio

Telescópico Garnacha 2020

Bright & light yet brimming with character.
Translucent red with beautiful aromas of ripe cherry, aronia, ripe raspberries, a hint of allspice, and an underlying minerality as if ground bricks.
Bright on the palate, beautifully juicy, with firm, light tannins and great purity of fruit on the mid palate. Lovely long mineral finish. This has quite some depth and precision. Somewhere between northern Burgundy (Irancy?) and Gredos.
Old vine bush grown Garnacha from clay & limestone mountain vineyards, spontaneously fermented in cement vats and aged in old foudres.
So enticing!

Vino de la Tierra Castilla y León Pegaso Barrancos de Pizarra Red Blend 2014

Enticing & seductive with spicy, fresh red fruit, with some ripe cherry, a touch of amarena and a fresh, mineral edge. So fresh, lively, inviting.
Light yet luscious on the palate, vibrant juicy cherry acidity. Love the tannins - grippy yet sappy and quite polished.
Cherries & raspberries with a orange peel sidekick. Delicious.
This is a great wine - authentic & so fresh & juicy yet elegant at the same time.
You just gotta love Gredos.
