I had a bottle two years ago, and now 11 years after bottling this wine is drinking even more beautifully. Strawberry, dark cherry, cedar, cocoa, white pepper, and cinnamon on the palate. High acid, medium tannins, and medium alcohol with a long finish. Some tertiary notes say don’t put this off much longer. I miss the days when producers weren’t making SLH pinots so hot. I’d almost forgotten I had this lying in a forgotten corner of the cellar. It’s a blend of 35% Semillon 28% Roussanne, 16% Chardonnay 15% Chenin Blanc 6% Clairette. It’s delicious and has lots of character. Deep greenish gold color is striking. I love the nose: lanolin, pear, candle wax, a wee bit of honey, crushed rock. Deeply flavored. It’s got the weighty texture of the Semillon and Roussanne components in the fore. Lovely fruit up front transitions into a minerally finish with a nice bitterish note. Pretty decent acids. This is what I remember about great California Cabs. In my cellar for 25+ years. Popped the cork and left air 2 hours before decanting for another hour. A hint of the coconut marker while first decanting but blew off quickly. Great color and condition. — a year ago
