Popped and poured; enjoyed over the course of an hour. The 2020 Estate pours a bright, yellow/green color with medium viscosity. On the nose, the wine is developing with notes of bright tropical fruit: pineapple, passion fruit, star fruit, lemon curd, almonds, toasted marshmallow, warm spices and minerals. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose, the finish is medium+. Lovely stuff. Drink now through 2035+. Bottle No. 9032/12960 — 3 months ago

Yalumba have now been working with this varietal for 40 years in the Eden Valley which has proven to be an ideal terroir for Viognier. A blend of fruit from Barossa Valley (79%) & Eden Valley (21%), aged 18 months in 30% new French oak, deep Ruby with purple hues, aromas of dark fruits, licorice, spice, floral and tar. On the palate flavors of ripe juicy blackberry and plum with bits of smoky oak. Well balanced, great mouthfeel, soft velvet tannins, long finish ending with spice smoky oak character. Taste: silky, opulent, structured wine with dark cherry, tobacco, charred earth, currants, herbs, pepper, and a coffee-pencil lead long finish with just a touch of heat from the alcohol. Some overripe, red delicious apple joins in with those impressions on the flavor side of things. Heavy body and somewhat unctuous.
