Montchenot Champagne Villers Allerand 1er Cru Pinot Noir 2018

A rather distinctive rose gold hue in the glass. Plenty of bubbles that just don’t stop. The introduction to this champagne is stellar with a blossoming of orchard fruits and floral aromatics. Green apples and raspberries for days. After some time you’ll find a really pleasant touch of lemon and butter.

A producer that I’m absolutely falling for. Well crafted stupendous champagnes made with obvious care. 100% Pinot Noir from Villers-Allerand. Zero dosage and disgorged in late 2022. Thrilling acidity with tension and drama for days. Obviously so very young but also so ready now.

Complex and deep, this is a wine with personality. Power and so much sense of place here. Apples, lemon zest, and orange peel on the tongue. Brioche and cherries shine here. The finish is long and lingering. A beautiful, beautiful champagne.

Special Club Blanc de Blancs Champagne Chardonnay 2016

Champagne A. Margaine 2016 Special Club—a Blanc de Blancs made with 100% Chardonnay.

This champagne showcases a fine & lively perlage after over five years resting ‘sur lie’ in the cool, chalk cellars of the Margain family followed by additional time in the bottle.

On the nose are elegant notes of citrus peel, white peach, kumquat harmoniously layered with white blossom, overt mineral notes of oyster shell, seashell and flint, and autolytic notes of nougat, toast, almond paste, & lemon pound cake.

The palate is dry with 8 g/L in dosage, a racy acidity, which cuts through the creamy mousse & mouth-coating texture. It departs slowly.

These bubbles transport us back to our magical visit to A. Margaine in the 1er cru village of Villers-Marmery, an island of Chardonnay in the Grande Montagne de Reims, which is predominantly planted to Pinot Noir.

Le Mont Benoit 1er Cru Extra Brut Champagne Pinot Meunier Blend 2018

Lots of complex aromatics that became even more expressive as the bottle warmed up. Some oxidative notes mixed with bread and flowers. In the mouth this leans to the vinous side. Acid driven which allows it to be consumed through out the meal. Just a hint of bitterness on the finish — 3 years ago
