Bin 36

Marchesi Mazzei

Mix 36 Toscana Sangiovese 2015

Ming L
9.3

100% Sangiovese. Mazzei bottled this as Vicoregio 36 Chianti Classico Gran Selezione since 2017.

This has the concentration, richness, and depth of a BdM, yet remains firmly in Chianti territory with sour cherry, dried herbs, and the slightly savory finish. The bright acidity is as good as it gets. Fantastic!

Bin 28 Kalimna Shiraz 2007

Even in an average vintage like 2007 the Bin 28 can still be showing well at 19 years of age. Blackberry and Penfolds Choc mocha. Some herb garden and liquorice. Will not improve but could carry on for a couple more years. — 2 months ago

Grange Hermitage Bin 95 Shiraz Cabernet Sauvignon 1994

Dead… was my first impression.
So I put the remaining 2/3 of the bottle in the fridge.
On day two this showed more balance and depth. Dark fruit notes and grilled meat as well. Alas, the brown notes of cola, raisins and dates were still present. Although this must have been a suboptimal bottle, I finished the remainder with pleasure!

Bin 150 Marananga Barossa Valley Shiraz 2008

2008 was the first ever vintage of Bin 150, a Cuvee even to this day not seen often at Penfolds tastings. Chief Penfolds winemaker, Peter Gago said it best when he said, “A definitive Penfolds style based on Grange-quality vineyards and central Barossa terroir. “ When you reflect that most of their best Cuvées are multi regional blends, the Bin 150 from Marananga is somewhat unique. My notes for this wine - Rich dark red and black fruits. The Penfolds stamp of Choc/Mocha - an aristocratic nose showing the product of aged vines and excellent terroir. Will still be drinking well in the 2030s but is thoroughly enjoyable right now. — 7 days ago

@Doug Powers Coming from a defined vineyard the production in bottles is probably not high.

Grange Bin 95 Shiraz 1999

The times I helt a bottle like this in my hands, I can probably count on only one hand. Even for Delectable this is a rare occasion because it didn’t know how to correctly recognize it. When a wine connects like this, lifts you off the ground and takes you to a beautiful place, you know it is good. Intense, but perfectly balanced, so many instruments playing that still echo for minutes in a lingering finish. 26 years old yet so vibrant and wild with dark punchy fruits encapsulated by aged mahogany wood that released different flavors every time I took a sip… yeah… life is good.
