My first Saint-Bris! Pale lemon yellow color. Plush aromas of citrus fruit, white flowers, chalk and abundant fresh herbs. Flavors of unripe peach, all those savory herbs, green apple and lemon zest. Noticeable mineral backbone on the long and drawn out finish. Lively and crisp acidity. Medium-minus body and wonderful freshness. Vibrant and harmonious! There are Chablis comparisons here. Founded in 1982 by Koerner and Joan Rombauer and sits on a tree covered knoll overlooking the Napa Valley, with caves that extend for over a mile. Pale lemon color with aromas of stone and tropical fruit, sweet oak, spice and floral scents. On the palate flavors of ripe peach, melon and apple, with vanilla spice, creamy texture. Presented double-blind at Tasting Group. The wine pours a straw color; medium viscosity with no signs of particles or gas. On the nose, the wine is developing with notes of tropical fruit, lemon citrus, white and yellow flowers, and slivered almond. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is medium+ and creamy, leesy. Ooof…another neutral white.

Initial conclusions: this could be Chardonnay or Sauvignon Blanc or Pinot Gris from France or the United States. There is no oak (possibly neutral oak but I think it’s lees contact). So I’m going with my gut and calling this Chardonnay, France, Burgundy, Chablis, 2022. Ha! Patrick Piuze is a Chablis producer but this wine uses grapes outside of the zone, hence the Bourgogne Blanc designation. Tricky wine but I’ll take it. Drink now through 2033. — 3 months ago
