Ultreia Saint Jacques Mencía 2018

This wine has the kitchen sink in it. Dark fruit is hiding under the prominent leather, herbs, mint, tobacco, and earth. It's a fine sipper for jazz nights by the fireplace. Made my teeth red.

Château Léoville Barton

Saint-Julien Red Bordeaux Blend 2001

Ink, plum, pencil, forest fruits, tannins still present, but pleasantly and finely rough, they predict a pretty future. Firm and somewhat stubborn too. Red, grilled peppers. — 4 days ago

Château Cos d'Estournel

Saint-Estèphe Red Bordeaux Blend 2002

9.6

Not the best of vintage in Bdx, but the winemaker clearly pulled off some acrobatics here.
Nose displays the usual Cos spice-box signature, along with notes of forest floor, sage and mushrooms. Palate is rich and dense showing no signs of age. Nice mature casis profile links up with brambles and sandalwood. Tannins continue to prop up this outstanding example.

Château Lilian Ladouys

Saint Estèphe Red Bordeaux Blend 2023

2023 vintage. The blends can vary dramatically at this estate. In this vintage it is 57% Cabernet Sauvignon, 37% Merlot, 5% Petit Verdot, and 1% Cabernet Franc. Refined and elegant, with impeccable balance and refined tannins. Another winner from this extremely reliable estate. Incredible value too. Abv. 13%. — a month ago

Château Ausone

Saint Émilion Red Bordeaux Blend 1986

Nose is slightly off, murky, outdoorsey, rainwater, mossy rocks, old cellar scents. Gets better after an hour!
Deep ruby colour. Lovely mouthfeel, red berry fruit, cigars, cold coffee, autumnal forestfloor.
A privilige..!

Château Phélan Ségur

Saint-Estèphe Red Bordeaux Blend 2014

Very nice. Bold but not abrasive with alcohol like younger Bordeaux can be. Cab dominant but can tell the Merlot is there too - balanced but you can still tell the cab comes first. Tannins are well integrated. 2014 vintage…could go longer - still youthful in fruit. Drinking great now though. — 24 days ago

Pierre Gonon

Saint-Joseph Syrah 2023

Popped and poured; enjoyed over the course of a few hours. The 2023 pours a ruby/purple color with a near opaque core; medium+ viscosity with moderate staining of the tears. On the nose, the wine is developing with an explosion of smoked blackberry pie, purple flowers, bacon fat, olive, black pepper, and subtle warm spices. On the palate the wine is dry with medium tannin and medium acid. Confirming the notes from the nose however, the wine finishes much more elegant than the nose would suggest. The bouquet might lead one to think this is possibly over the top. However, on the palate, it was far more elegant. Another vintage, another stunning Gonon. Drink now through 2043. — 11 days ago
