Château La Tour Haut Brion

Château Tour du Haut-Moulin

Cru Bourgeois Red Bordeaux Blend 2018

2018 vintage. Owned by the same family since 1870, until the fifth generation, Lionel Poitou sold this 10 hectares estate to 3 Israeli winemakers. La Tour du Haut Moulin has a long reputation for value for money, and this 2018 is no exception. Solid dark red colour with only a little evolution. In the mouth it features a serious black fruit concentration, balanced by fresh acidity and a serious tannic backbone, while avoiding the alcohol heath that sometimes characterises this hot vintage. It has an old school slightly rustic feel about it, but it's incredible value for money. Drinking very well now, but no need to hurry, I am convinced it will last at least for another decade. I found this in a local supermarket for 8,09 euro, I kid you not! Life is fine for wine lovers in the Bordeaux region. Abv. 13,5%. I am curious to see what the new owners will achieve with this estate, there should be huge potential . — 8 days ago

Château Larrivet Haut-Brion

Pessac-Léognan Blanc White Bordeaux Blend

Loved my first sip of this. Have in my notes that I liked it less as I kept drinking, but then liked it again at the end. It’s pretty dry and you can taste the yeast. Definitely apple-y , I also get some grapefruit and pineapple. It has a bit of oak and minerality. Feels polished. Nice wine. — 19 days ago

Château Haut-Brion

Pessac-Léognan Red Bordeaux Blend 1961

1961 vintage. Ahoy there! Lower neck fill. Durand employed. Opened (not decanted) with plenty of cork splintering/crumbles despite the Durand and meticulous/slow movements. Cork stayed intact but just barely and about 80% saturated. Extensive (3-4 minutes) cleaning of the bottle lip and inch-deep, upper neck to remove fused cork residue. Tasted 45 mins, 2 hours, 4 hours and 6 hours after opening. Heavier body than expected given the producer. A bit of a slap in the face as it rolled in as medium/medium-heavy body which is hilarious. Nose initially a mysterious, century+ sitting room with plenty of decay, dust and past. Things shifted to soy/teriyaki sauce fairly shortly after with a little 5-10 minute fried chicken nose that vanished. Various (dark/semi-sweet) chocolates and cherry reduction sauce eventually emerged. A paced, harmonious narrative stayed constant throughout. Gorgeous experience. Didn't exactly diminish my impressions of H-B being the best first growth in BDX. It's generally the lightest and least-flashy. 1.23.26. — 2 months ago

Samuel Pepys wrote in 1663 of “a sort of French wine called Ho Bryan, that hath a good and most particular taste that I never met with.” Sounds about right.
