I love that wine is a universal form of expression, capable of crossing oceans and connecting us to a different time. I love how wine is a confluence of art and science that can add a magical dimension to just about every experience.
This past summer, my husband and I, along with our friend Winston, registered for a WSET Level 3 Award in Wines class and exam. We proceeded to devote countless hours to learning about different viticultural and vinification processes and their impact on the resulting style and quality of wine; learning about old and new world regions and subregions, their histories, geographies, topographies, soil, latitudinal positioning, wine laws, terroir, noteworthy winemaking techniques and innovations, legendary winemakers and merchants, and varietals. We tasted wine after wine, learned and practiced the Systematic Approach to Tasting Wine (SAT), and explored regional varietals we’d never heard of previously.
We were welcomed into communities, groups, and gatherings, where we were mentored and supported by true and inspiring wine experts.
And, with gratitude, I’m thrilled to report we (all three of us) passed the WSET Level 3 exam with honors; I passed it with distinction.
Cheers to the amazing world of wine!! The more I learn about you, the more I love you and realize I still barely know you. I’ve just scratched the surface of your depths. — 5 years ago

Day 1 pretty good, day 2 outstanding. I probably should’ve decanted but it was nice watching the wine develop. — 5 years ago
Buttery, floral, round/full mouth feel, apple on the nose, slightly acidic (maybe limestone?) mineral after-taste. Like a meadow - at the beginning all you see is grass, but at the end you reach the top of the hill and then you see forest. An American Oak Forest. It's a smooth wine. — 7 years ago
The story of @presquilewine begins on the border of Arkansas and Louisiana, where Matt Murphy grew up working harvests on his family’s corn, soy, and rice farm. His appreciation for life led him to study molecular biology, but he kept finding himself being called out of the lab and back to the land. 🌊🏔
Matt found his home in California, but his links to the Gulf Coast were still strong. It was an unfortunate confluence of events that just when he and his family were looking to found their own winery, Hurricane Katrina tore asunder and reshaped some of the lands closest to their hearts. The little spit of land on the Mississippi Gulf Coast known as Presqu’Ile, which had been a special place for Murphy family gatherings, was wiped from the map.
In the aftermath of such transformative events, all we can do is remember the good times and immortalize them how we can. For the Millers, that took the form of putting the name of their special place on the front of each bottle. Every time someone flips it around to learn more about what they’re drinking, Presqu’Ile lives again. 🌅 — 7 years ago

This is our first experience with Aubert and a fantastic one at that!
We’ve read so many rave reviews for Aubert Chardonnay. We had to seek it one out and the holidays are the perfect time to pop one of these special wines.
Aubert is an artisanal winery in Calistoga (Napa Valley). Proprietors Mark and Teresa Aubert seek to produce a product of the land, crafted with limited intervention, showcasing the beauty of Napa Valley terroir, in this case, the amphitheater-shaped Powder House Vineyard.
This wine represents a confluence of nature, farming, and craftsmanship.
It is medium lemon in color with medium (+) intensity of aromas and flavors, including glazed white peach, nectarine, apricot, ripe mango, melon, lemon curd, apple blossom, caramel, butterscotch, cream, vanilla, nutmeg, toast, struck match, wet stones, and chestnut.
On the palate this wine is dry and has a generous mouthfeel – it’s full bodied – with high alcohol and medium (+) acidity, lending balance. In sum, it’s rich, complex, and delicious. A perfect symmetrical pairing with pan-seared sea bass. — 3 years ago

Liguria is a coastal region in Italy, nestled in the northwestern corner of the country, hugging the Ligurian Sea, with steep mountains defining the landscape.
It offers an ideal mix of warm, dry conditions, moderating influences from the coast and varying altitudes, and nutrient-poor soils (which is good for vine growing!). However, its dramatic topography limits the amount of wine that can be produced from this region…
With that background, we were thrilled to be sipping a glass of this beautiful Ligurian white wine made from the Vermentino grape. What a pleasure to envision us sitting on a terrace overlooking the sea!
Leaping out of the glass was tangerine peel, grapefruit, green apple, passion fruit, pineapple, boxwood, white citrus blossom, elderflower, and wet stone -- a delicious confluence of pronounced fruit and floral aromas and flavors.
It was vibrant, youthful, and fresh, yet also concentrated and juicy, adding a level of richness to the mouthfeel.
Lvnae, Colli di Luni D.O.C., Vermentino, ABV 12.5. Vintage 2019. A fantastic value at $25 / bottle.

Nice. A great confluence of CA PN and Burgundy. — 6 years ago

Good Pinot Gris in typical Oregon fashion. Light, crisp, fruit forward with stone fruit and lemon zest. Nice find. Hadn’t had this vineyard before. Located in Cottage Grove, Oregon (near Eugene), fruit sources from Chalice Estate and Confluence Vineyards. Dijon clones. 4500 cases produced. The 2016 vintage yielded a 91 score from Wine Enthusiast and an Editor’s Choice for wine. No doubt the 2017 will as well. Seek this one out to try. It’s amazing QPR, winery retail is $16. I picked it up for less at a Portland wine shop. — 7 years ago
Loved Ten Degrees- reminded me of Confluence! Outstanding!! — a year ago
Magnificent legs and a translucent ruby red hue that captures the “Confluence” of the Anderson Valley at its best! The fragrance enhances this Pinot Noir with fresh notes of raspberries, ripened black cherries, red currant and wet, soft shale. On the palette, sweet red raspberries followed by sugared black cherries, oak and subtle spices. The finish comes with some effervescence on the tongue with velvety tannins and a well-balanced finish! — 2 years ago
This Barbaresco, made exclusively from the Nebbiolo grape, hailing from Piedmont, Italy, offers a confluence of fruit, herb, and spice characteristics. It was aged in Slavonian oak for 2-3 years prior to release.
It has a medium ruby hue, garnet rim variation, and noticeable tearing.
On the nose, this wine has a medium intensity of youthful aromas. Aromas include primary notes of cherry, blackberry, cassis, also potpourri, black licorice, dried oregano, and secondary notes of clove, nutmeg, coriander, cedar, and tertiary notes of leather, wet earth, and sweet tobacco.
On the palate this wine is dry. It has medium acidity(+), a medium(+) body, high alcohol, medium(+) tannins, and medium intensity of concentrated flavors consistent with the nose. Flavors include primary notes of cherry, blackberry, cassis, also potpourri, black licorice, dried oregano, and secondary notes of clove, nutmeg, coriander, cedar, and tertiary notes of leather, wet earth, and sweet tobacco. The finish is medium.
This wine is balanced, complex, and has great concentration in aromas and flavors. It remains youthful but takes on some tertiary notes not necessarily due to age.

Spicy aromas follows by a dark cherry, black currant flavors, a hit of chocolate with a well balanced complexity and a smooth elegant finish. Sangiovese, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. — 5 years ago
Sourced from this great Anderson Valley vineyard, this shows lovely damp soil with huckleberry compote and shades of cinnamon infused red cherry aromatics that take shape in the glass. The balance of the wine is really good as medium to full-bodied red and dark fruit flavors provide a lasting effect. While slightly less complex than the 2017 ‘Confluence Vineyard’ bottling, it is downright delicious to savor in its youth. Drink 2020-2030- 92 — 6 years ago
