Fermentors Of Regret

Sandlands

Amador County Chenin Blanc 2021

Wow! Explosion of tart lemon curd. Bright, zippy, alive. Highest props for not raising the price on these gems. True bargains….Tegan is an absolute genius and my only regret is not getting large enough allocation.., — 2 years ago

Château Beau Soleil

Pomerol Red Bordeaux Blend 2016

A bit all over the place but enough to enjoy. Lots of brambles at the beginning then a bit of flabby fruit. Wouldnt drink again but dont regret trying. Went well with rack of lamb and roast potatoes — 3 years ago

Domaine des Roches Neuves (Thierry Germain)

Les Mémoires Saumur-Champigny Cabernet Franc 2020

Delectable Wine
9.4

The 2020 Les Mémoires is a round and elegant Cabernet Franc. It's a not-trying-hard wine that exudes a sense of calm and ease as it rolls around your mouth seamlessly. Maybe it's the 100-year-old vines doing their thing. There's no oak getting in the way, allowing the purity of fruit to shine. It remains true to its variety and place, while its light spice meets dark fruits. Forget the fruit flavors, this is all about refined texture and its fine, chalky, powdery veil of tannins lightly coating the palate. Long and textural, this is not a wine you'll regret... Domaine Jean Francois Garon

Côte-Rôtie Syrah 2001

Took a chance and while I don’t regret the purchase (my local wine shop hadn’t changed its price since first released, so a relative bargain), this 2001 Cote de Rotie is one step away from the next wine afterlife. The fruit has all but burned away revealing notes of burnt cherries, beef jerky,& balsamic. Pretty garnet tinged cherry color. Tannins still strong in the background- in its youth it must have been a beast. As my friend noted, drank like an aged Burgundy at the beginning. Did not decant. Paired beautifully with a grapefruit roasted chicken. — 5 years ago

Great QPR at $25.00 per mag
Winery notes,

beautiful terroir skillfully worked by Jérômine Paret and Philippe Garnier. Responding to the call of his parents, Jérômine gave up a career as an English teacher to take over the family estate. She then studied business and allied herself with Philippe Garnier, who has one goal in mind: to achieve excellence. She does not regret her choices today and her customers don't either! Thus, the estate evolves each year with new wines and techniques. The organically-farmed vineyards are planted mostly to Marsanne, and this is reflected in the blend, which also includes Bourboulenc, Clairette, Sauvignon, and Ugni Blanc. Fermented entirely in stainless steel and resin-lined cement vats, the wine shows notes of white flowers including honeysuckle, jasmin, and citrus blossom, while aeration reveals secondary nuances of aniseseed, eucalyptus, and hazelnut.

Domaine Guiberteau

Clos de Guichaux Saumur Chenin Blanc 2019

Much more subtle than I anticipated & compared to Chidaine, Huet, etc. Probably a bit closed & can use a decant at this stage. All kinds of pulverized shells & a low key minerality, long & lean in terms of texture. No wool or wax here. White flowers, Asian pear, & I want to say raw yellow zucchini ( though I may regret that). All kinds of complexity to taste. A ‘contemplative’ rather than a race horse wine-& hope my homeboy will hang onto his others so we can taste what age will do. Opened during an exhilarating Knicks win. — 3 years ago

Mas de Boislauzon

Châteauneuf-du-Pape Red Rhone Blend 2019

McCarthy & Schiering, $50

Bittersweet occasion and went way above my budget to celebrate my birthday and also mourn Grandma Julie's passing. She loved CdP so thought I'd splurge on one. I've only had a couple but have loved every one I tried. This was a bit different, I'm used to bright fruit forward but this was very muted cooked dark fruit with a lot of emphasis on the baking spice and earthy tobacco notes. Incredibly complex - licorice, coffee, clove, tobacco with an underlying subtle dried/cooked dark fruit. Crazy smooth, but I'm comparing it to sub $20 wines that I'm used to, and you can barely tell that it's 15% alc. Nice tannins but I think it would benefit from a touch more acidity. I'm being picky since I paid so much for it but in summary it's one of the best made wines I've ever had, but not among my favorites. But it's still a great experience and I don't regret the purchase

Brewer-Clifton

Melville Vineyard Pinot Noir 2013

Another confirmation that Greg Brewer makes some of the best, age-worthy chards out there. This 2013 is awesome. My only regret is that I don’t have another bottle to see what it will be like in 3-4 years (I’m guessing even better). — 5 years ago

Domaine du Grand Coulet

Châteauneuf-du-Pape Red Rhone Blend 2011

The 2010 has matured nicely with softening of the considerable tannins and just a hint of oxidation. The fruit and acidity of Syrah and Grenache paired nicely with Asian dishes—wagyu bulgogi and a slightly spicy shrimp and vegetable stew. I regret this was my last bottle since it will continue to evolve and please for another 5 to 10 years. — 5 years ago

Ventosa Vineyards

Vino Rosso Red Blend

I can’t believe it. We purchased this after a long day of wine tasting on Seneca Lake, and I expected to regret it. It is an absolutely delightful table wine, doing chewy fruit flavors, stone fruit and black cherry. No offensive wood, tannin, or acid. Really ... surprisingly great table wine. — 8 years ago

Château Grand-Puy-Lacoste

Pauillac Red Bordeaux Blend 2000

2000 vintage. Decanted and tasted over the course of two hours. Pristine, top shoulder fill and immaculate cork. Still tons of color. Medium body. Some bramble fruits in the nose along the usual damp earth, cassis, graphite/minerals. Consolidated power and grip with a 35-40 second finish. In the zone and worth seeking out now until 2035. Should be more affordable than most comparably performing 2000 vintage BDX online, retail or in restos. Hit it. You won't regret it. 12.8.23. — 3 years ago

This is a terrific burgundy — smooth and balanced with tasty red fruit. Decent amount of residual sugar. If I had any regret, it would be drinking it too early. I bet the secondary characteristics on this one will be fantastic. $75, SommPicks. — 4 years ago

Tamber Bey

Deux Chevaux Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon 2018

Tamber Bey . 2018. Cabernet sauvignon. Yountville - Napa Valley. My new favorite vineyard in California. I have spent hundreds of dollars trying to find a good California cab. And when I say hundreds I mean hundreds. Finally!!!!!!!! This is the third bottle and they have all held true over the past six months. It’s not tart it’s not sour and has no crazy aftertaste. Just DANG good cab! Instead of describing what it is I’m going to describe what it’s not . Basically everything we don’t like in a wine is not here!!!!!! Only one more word: BUY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I promise you will not regret this purchase! — 5 years ago

Fattoria di Fèlsina Berardenga

Riserva Rancia Chianti Classico Sangiovese Blend 2009

Animal, leather, dried cherry, violets, sandalwood and black pepper. Very savory and rustic at first, with air it really transformed, showing the elegant and polished side this wine has. This had a richness to it that I found really appealing, a heftier expression of CC, vintage perhaps? Only regret was not enjoying this with a piece of lamb/beef 😭 — 8 years ago
