Popped and poured; enjoyed over the course of a few hours. The 2023 Chavignol Rosé pours a nearly Nantucket red with a transparent core; medium viscosity with no staining of he tears. On the nose, the wine is developing with notes of strawberry, watermelon Jolly Rancher, Kaffir lime, and limestone minerals. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is medium+ with a chalky texture. One of the great Rosés of the world that nobody ever talks about. Drink now through 2033. — 4 months ago

Popped and poured; enjoyed over the course of an hour. The 2024 “Les Monts Damés” pours a straw color with medium viscosity. On the nose, the wine is developing with white flowers, grapefruit, star fruit, alfalfa, and cream cheese stuffed poblano pepper. There’s also this Double Bubble thing going on. Wild stuff. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is medium+. In a world of increasing ambiguity, I love that this is immediately identifiable as Sancerre. Drink now through 2034+. — 3 months ago

Melon, pear and grapefruit, with lemon zest and flinty notes. Wine has maintained acidity despite 10 years of aging. — 5 months ago

Love FBalthazar’s Chaillot Cornas but never had his SS offering. I’d rather catch most SS wines in their youth to not roll the dice and get them super fresh.
Splash decanted; followed over two days.
Deep purple in the glass with hallmark Cornas aromatics…smoked meat, charcoal, dark potpourri/florals, cassis, blackberries. On the palate, the typical Cornas rusticity is more elegant, with peppered black fruits, sweet smoke, mocha, savory spices. It undoubtedly has a very “pure” profile, showing Syrah without any sort of mask. Good acid and tannin. Day two showed the mid-palate lose steam a bit, which isn’t a big surprise. Lovely bottle. If I could guarantee its evolution, this seemed like it would cruise another 7-10yrs, but who knows with SS! — 12 hours ago
