Popped and poured; enjoyed over the course of a few hours. The 2008 pours a straw color with a persistent mousse. On the nose, the wine is developing with notes of passion fruit, green apple, marzipan, light brioche, lemon curd, and chalk for dayzzzz. On the palate, the wine is dry with high acid. Bright and deep ruby purple with quickly dissipating magenta mousse. Black cherry and tarry patent leather on the inviting nose and medium full palate. Medium acidity and medium tannins. Finish is lengthy and continues the palate and extends the tannins. Wonderful dry red sparkler suitable for brunch, dinner, or just sipping (though the tannins do call for food of some type). Popped and poured; no formal notes. While the Goutorbe was ready for the business, this 2016 from Gimonnet was more of a discussion about its potential. This Special Club bottling showcases Oger and naturally, is a 100% Chardonnay BdB. I like where it’s headed, it’s just so youthful and tightly coiled. Loads of minerals and acid. Needs time.
