Medium deep ruby with quite a thin lightly garnet rim. Spiced dark cherry , with some sweet blackberry , raspberry , vanilla , cocoa , earthy leather and grafite . Quite young , dense and compacted on the nose. On the palate this quite intense with quite high acidity , slightly strict with lightly gritty tannins , cherry , blackberry , spiced raspberry , some touches of grafite , dried spices and leather . This is quite young , needs a little more time but is promising with good density , freshness and balance . Come back in 3-4 years and will drink well over the next 10-15 — 2 months ago

Big and brooding. Plum, currant, toasty oak, vanilla, and mocha notes. I have long been a big fan of the Medella Real Gran Reserva. Relatively easy to find. Great price. Always reliable. It’s one of those wines that will appeal to both the newly-initiated and experienced tasters. I also love that it’s so multifaceted. Gentle nose of black currant, leather, black tea, Chinese medicine herbs, vanilla, with hint of incense and tobacco leaf. Medium body. Vibrant palate with fresh acidity and additional taste of cherry and sweet spice. Mellow tannins.

It's mind boggling that this sells at Costco at $19.99. I don't know how C.V.N.E do it. I prefer this over the 09 Vina Real Grand Reserva. Maybe I should retaste the Vina Real. — 9 years ago

Compost on the nose, although we just opened this 6 year old bottle. So, ok. Truth time. We've had carmenere wines before and thought they were oddly flavored, off balanced, and overall not so great. Whew! Got that off my chest. This wine shows some real promise. Fully flavored with lovely red fruits, smooth tannins and silky finish. We enjoyed this and am sure it will open up. — 4 years ago

Not every day you get to drink a 22 year old wine. This Rioja had all the aging characteristics. Wide orange ora around the rim, oak, earth and cigar infused with dried fruit (that way, not the other way around). The oak was still so strong, I can only imagine how it would have been upon first release. It had lots of uplift g vibrancy and the layers of complexity made it a real interesting wine. — 7 months ago

Dark garnet/purple to the edge with a strong aroma of black plum & berries, earth, maybe tabacco and oak backed with a strong alcohol/acidic nose. Smooth at first, some fruit forwardness but then the acidity hits. Really need to have this with the right food to balance. On the dry side with even tannins. Will see after real airing.
