The first Gran Selezione vintage—although the year predates the rollout of the higher quality designation, this was the first bottling to have documentation proving it met the criteria. Nose is expressive - cherry, plum, graphite, spice, lavender.

Tastes like cherry and dark fruit, minerals, tobacco.

Full bodied, rich and intense.

Sofia’s favorite vineyard plot. A “smoke show” we called it. Generally the 19s were the standouts — beautifully balanced and giving all of the dried herb and earthy notes typical of great Chianti Classico — but this was an exception, opulent and spicey (allspice, cinnamon, cedar) and so so fragrant. Stay in the look out for these wines — Sofia (the estate manager) and Giocomo (vineyard manger and cellar master, most recently of Isole & Olena) are making some really intentional and pretty wines here. — 3 years ago

Post-Bemis Art Auction. I found this to be quite enjoyable but also pretty simple. Red fruit with some dried herb like qualities...but that’s about it. QPR isn’t so great. The 2015 Isole e Olena CC served after crushed it for half the price. — 7 years ago

This wine is medium gold. The nose opens up to a bouquet of stone and tropical fruit notes such as ripe peach, apricot, papaya, starfruit, melon, and cantaloupe.

Other primary aromas include orange peel, wet stone, white blossom, and salinity. This wine also has secondary notes of sweet cream, brioche, pencil shavings, and vanilla.

The flavors on the palate are consistent. It’s a full bodied white with high alcohol (14%) and has a rich mouthfeel, balanced by a dose of acidity. — 4 years ago

Cantine Colosi Malvasia Delle Lipari Passito Di Salina 2009: Grown on the island of Salina, off the coast of Sicily (part of the volcanic Aeolian Islands or Isole Eolie), this wine presents a milder sweetness than I am used to. Strong honey aromas dominate the nose however the warm orange & nectar flavors soothe the palate and bring a familiar smile to my face. Mild hints of apricot & fig appear on other sips as I finish the glass and tasting experience. Overall, a good dessert wine to end any evening. Have a great week! Cheers🍷 — 5 years ago
