Château Cos d'Estournel

Saint-Estèphe Red Bordeaux Blend 2022

Well super highly rated. Quite fruit driven and juicy. Easily drink now. Hard to pin down / i am a a pinot guy after all. Could age for 15 years or so but would not keep it too long. — 7 months ago

Billecart-Salmon

Brut Rosé Champagne Chardonnay Blend

It’s everything you want from good champagne. Rich, unctuous texture with notes of brioche toast, vanilla, pineapple, pear, flint. While it’s big and rich, it still has enough minerality and acidity to keep it extremely drinkable. Fantastic. — 4 years ago

Château La Mission Haut-Brion

Pessac-Léognan Red Bordeaux Blend 1966

This was my favorite wine today that seemed to just keep building in the glass showing the classic LMHB magic. Black fruits, soy, graphite, cedar, leather, licorice, mineral, cigar box & violet. A magical vintage for me that I have had many times & never disappoints! — 5 years ago

R. López de Heredia

Viña Tondonia Reserva Rioja Tempranillo Blend 2012

NOSE: muted, red fruit, oaky vanilla, graphite

TASTE: super smooth, the fruit is candied and dried (cherry and maybe some fig?), mild spices and earth and fragrant wood — still enough acidity to keep it balanced. I like more fruit and oomph, but it is good. 92.

Château Palmer

Margaux Red Bordeaux Blend 1970

Delectable Wine
9.2

The 1970 Palmer is a vintage that I have tasted on several occasions, although recently, I have encountered some variation, including a rather rum example in 2015. The most recent example has an attractive tobacco-infused nose, perhaps more akin to a Saint-Julien than a Margaux. The palate is medium-bodied with a firm backbone, a slight dryness around the edges and fine salinity with lightly-spiced cedar and tobacco notes on the finish. This is a solid 1970 Margaux, though I would not keep it long-term. (Neal Martin, Vinous, August 2023)

David Girard Vineyard Counoise 2023

First time with this grape and this vintner. Color is super light. Very clean and crisp. At first sip, thought we were missing something but enjoyed it more had more throughout the evening - enough that we’d buy again at $30 and look forward to trying more from Keep. Very fun and interesting — 5 years ago

Château Léoville-Las Cases

Grand Vin de Leoville du Marquis de las Cases Saint-Julien Red Bordeaux Blend 1982

Worth the wait. It did not disappoint! Seems to be a wine many keep waiting for and I was hesitant to rush on this but couldn’t resist any longer. I thought it was fantastic. No rough edges to be found. I think this baby is more than ready to be enjoyed! Currants, earth notes, and subtle mature fruit. Consumed over about 5.5 hours and decanted in a magnum decanter. It was very good in the first hour and fantastic by the fourth where I personally think it peaked. Thankfully, I have one more bottle for the future! — 5 years ago

Stag's Leap Wine Cellars

Artemis Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2017

Deep ruby with aromas of dark fruit, sweet spice and herbs. On the palate of this mostly Cab Sauv with a splash of Merlot, sat on French oak for 18 months (about 1/3 new), flavors of rich and juicy cherry and blackberry with savory spice and integrated toasty oak that gives this medium+ length wine a satisfying finish. Artemis should keep well for at least another 5+ years. — 6 years ago

Château d'Yquem

Sauternes Sémillon-Sauvignon Blanc Blend 1984

The final wine at the First Growth Bordeaux Lunch at the Downs Club last Saturday…. and what a great way to finish a wonderful lineup. I recall Apricot and Pear on a palate of profound intensity which delivers on the powerful nose. An obviously sweet palate with enough racy acid to keep things interesting and fresh. Will last until the late 2030s at least. Terrific! — a year ago

Bright nose of lemon-cream, yellow apples, slight floral notes, key lime. Light and crisp taste followed by slight brown sugar and cream. Finishes with just a hint of toasted nuts. Hint of salinity and tiny bubbles make you keep coming back for more. — 5 years ago

Château Pontet-Canet

Pauillac Red Bordeaux Blend 2013

Somm David T
9.0

Pontet Canet tasting and dinner with Alfred Tesseron.

The 13 was a brutal tannin vintage when I tasted it at En Premier. The tannins are still bitty but, nothing like they were out of barrel.

The fruit in the 13 shows the difficulty in the vintage. They are duller and it’s really stands out from other vintages and not in a good way.

It’s lean and there is nothing that really draws you in. Fruits are; dark cherries, rhubarb, blackberries, some blueberries@and the strawberries show some ripeness the other do not. Lots of dry earth, dry stones, some herbs, dark withering florals, decent acidity and a uneventful dry finish.

Photos of; Clyde and Alfred at the bar, their Amphora style cement tanks they ferment part of each vintage now, road signs of the good neighbors they keep and Chateau Pontet Canet.
