L'Abeille de Fieuzal

Pessac-Léognan Sémillon Sauvignon 2023

2023 vintage. 60% Sémillon and 40% Sauvignon Blanc. Fieuzal is a personal favourite, and while I know the "grands vins" quite well, this is my first encounter with the second wine. Brilliant light golden colour. Seductive nose with fresh pineapple, white peach, grapefruit, and a hint of basil. In the mouth it confirms the synergy between the two grape varieties, a subtle interplay between exotic and citrus fruits, with impeccable purity, freshness and very nice length. Abv. 12,5%. Very good value too. — 5 months ago

Domaine Ponsot

Cuvée de l'Abeille Gevrey-Chambertin Pinot Noir 2005

Light red fruit on the front but the finish was way too acidic for me liking. — 8 years ago

L'abeille et Le Papillon

Yura Alsace White Blend 2023

Mostly Pinot blanc. Apparently some hot shot Alsace producer. Enjoyable but didn’t blow me away. Pretty “medium” on most dimensions. — 3 months ago

Pessac-Léognan Grand Cru Red Bordeaux Blend 2009

Nice Bordeaux. No need to wait more (and maybe better a couple years ago). Misses a bit of distinctiveness but still very nice with burgers etc. — 5 months ago

L'Abeille de Fieuzal

Pessac-Léognan 2020

2020 vintage. Merlot (50%), Cabernet Sauvignon (45%), Petit Verdot (3%) and Cabernet Franc. A very good second wine, in a lighter style, but try to type for the appellation, and a great introduction to the grand vin. A skilful, harmonious blend with admirable purity and a soft mouthfeel. Good spicy length. Nice value. Abv. 13,5%. — 5 months ago

Marchesi Antinori

Badia A Passignano Gran Selezione Chianti Classico Sangiovese 2001

Quite deep ruby , with a wide garnet rim, quite young looking. Dried herbs , smoked meat , red cherry, violets , liquorice and antique furniture polish notes . On the palate quite round and rich, sweet red fruits , with that herbal tinge , those liquorice and charcuterie notes also evident . This in fact still shows well a day later , still quite full and rich , with red plum and black cherry notes . Quite good acidity , with quite gritty tannins, balanced alcohol . Decent length . This is very good now though no rush , mature but will continue to show well for a while longer , from now over the next 5 years . Another T Wright Wine choice … see my De Fieuzal 1994 note — 2 years ago
