1999 vintage. Opened with a Durand. Cork in great shape and approx 35% saturated. Not decanted. Tasted after one hour open. Wowza. Most excellent, full nose. Medium body + with great, full color. Sous bois, smoked meats, carmelized cranberry impressions running the savory festival currently in residence. Personally, could only wish for a touch more astringency/tannins but, otherwise, completely phenomenal. At the absolute apex/top of the bell curve now and for the next 5-7 years. Have had some decent Roty efforts over the years but this one takes the cake along with the accompanying plates and silver. Do cork dorks dream of electric red Burgundy? Hafta say "Yes." 2.27.26. — a month ago
High in pyrazine. Grassy. Grapefruit. More New Zealand style than french. — 9 days ago

Banger. 07 Charmes, from 100+ year old vines right across from Chambertin, is a fabulous rendition in this vintage, seductive and complex wafting a dark fruited and gamey bouquet laced with violets and black tea. The palate is superbly concentrated, detailed and impeccably balanced with a finish that keeps on going. A particularly youthful ‘07 Grand Cru red burg. Long life ahead! — 8 days ago
2002 vintage. Opened with a Durand. Cork in pristine shape. Not decanted. Dark color but airy nose and light-medium body. Like just forming or disintegrating fog, really difficult to get a cohesive grip on a slippery palate. Ethereality to a fault. Hints, glimpses, scents, tastes of greatness but never just enough to remain confident in your rating. And, I suppose, that is exactly where the greatness of this wine lies. A tortured, maddening encounter that leaves you befuddled and asking yourself if it was your fault or not. 2.27.26. — a month ago
Château Kirwan 2023 – Margaux, Grand Cru Classé. BDX France 🇫🇷
Overview
A poised and expressive Margaux showing immediate charm while clearly structured for further evolution, delivering finesse, persistence, and a notably elongated finish compared to its peers in the flight.
Aromas & Flavors
Red cherry, wild strawberry, ripe raspberry, crushed rose petal, subtle vanilla, sweet spice, light cedar, gentle graphite undertones.
Mouthfeel
Medium-bodied with fine-grained tannins, excellent mid-palate energy, lifted acidity, and a long, persistent, and increasingly intense finish that carries well beyond the sip.
Food Pairings
Duck confit, herb-roasted chicken, veal chop with mushroom jus, lamb loin, aged Comté.
Verdict
Head-to-head with Château Prieuré-Lichine in overall quality, but Kirwan separates itself on finish length and persistence. Already surprisingly enjoyable today while still clearly benefiting from additional bottle age.
🍷 Personal Pick
The surprise overachiever of the Margaux flight, already fun now, but patience will unlock its real podium potential. — 2 months ago
