2023 vintage. Screw cap. Trader Joe’s selection. Have picked up a few bottles of this every year over the last decade just to have as haus wine-esp during the holidaze. This is the best vintage I’ve had. Structure. Fruit. Accessibility. It has rolled at $7.99 a bottle as long as I can remember. Popped and poured; enjoyed over the course of an hour. The 2019 pours a pale yellow color with medium+ viscosity. On the nose, the wine is developing with intense, ripe notes of Comice pears, baked green apple, mixed fruit cup, lemons, white tree flowers, lanolin, raw almond, tarragon, a touch of raw honey and minerals. On the palate, the wine is off-dry(?) with high acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is long and the texture is waxy. I questioned the off-dry call because I actually think it’s dry but the power and ripeness of the fruit, not to mention the 15% ABV(!!), give the impression of sweetness. An utterly balanced wine despite the big personality. A wine that gives main character energy. I wish I had a week or more to track the development because this is such a wee babe. Drink now to experience its youth and enjoy through 2049. — 10 months ago

Aromatics of new leather and dried fruit. Not your average Côtes du Rhône as you would expect from Chateau de Beaucastel. More full bodied than expected to go with our chicken dish. Far richer than Guigal’s version of Côtes du Rhône. Had my last bottle 11 weeks later on 27th February 2026 with consistent notes. — 7 months ago

Overview
From the limestone-rich slopes of Maimbray, Reverdy crafts this 100% Pinot Noir rosé, showing how Sancerre can shine not only in whites but also in elegant, age-worthy rosés. Though Sancerre is world-famous for Sauvignon Blanc, about 20% of its vineyards are planted to Pinot Noir, which can be vinified as red or rosé. This bottle demonstrates just how gracefully a Loire rosé can evolve with time.

Aromas & Flavors
Wild strawberry, raspberry, and redcurrant with rose petals and dried herbs. With age, subtle tones of candied orange peel and a light spice develop, adding dimension without overpowering.

Mouthfeel
Silky and rounded, with acidity still intact to keep it lively. Medium-bodied with a savory edge, balancing freshness and maturity.

Food Pairing
Perfect alongside charcuterie, grilled salmon, or roast chicken. The evolved texture also makes it a great partner for mushroom risotto or lentil dishes.

Verdict

The 2017 Coudoulet de Beaucastel, which comes from its own vineyard neighbouring the property, just outside the appellation. The vineyard shares much of the same terroir as its namesake across the road, and this is evident in the character – and quality – of the wine. The nose is a dead ringer for Châteauneuf, with effusive aromas of jammy red fruit, Turkish delight, liquorice, star anise, wild herbs, and cherry liqueur. The palate adds flavours of blood orange and dried cranberry, with good concentration. There is some heat and the finish feels slightly clunky, which is a shame – but I can imagine in a strong vintage this wine must be a real steal. And plenty of life left for this 2017, so I’d certainly look for the ‘16 or ‘19 as an alternative.

A nice wine to enjoy during advent.
