This is an intense, full-bodied wine. A striking minerality with scents of cherry on the nose. On the palate, the rich cherry flavor comes through with beautiful violet tones melding together harmoniously with a ferrous-driven minerality. The finish is long with the violet and cherry flavors making way for iron notes and strong tannins, which are almost too strident on the finish. I see the tasting window starting in 2017 or 2018. I decanted most of the bottle for two hours while leaving a serving in bottle for the second day. These notes are based on second day. Tannins were smoother second day, although still quite strong. I had the 2016 in the fall, and it had more complexity with softer tannins on the finish. — a month ago
Look, I work in agriculture, a farming, family, but damn farmer wine is good. I have not had any farmer or co-op wine in a long time that just meets the threshold of wow for this one. I mean just the color is beautiful clear Ruby and Claret with no obscuring whatsoever. This is not something we’re gonna be like oh a dissect the flavors for 30 minutes. It is good, solid amazing wine with clarity of color, absolute focus of flavor in beautiful concentration of the grape and the expression of the land and the spices, and a perfect balance of the acidity structure they’re in. I wish I would’ve bought more of this. — 2 months ago
Medium Ruby color with aromas of berry fruits and spicy floral notes. On the palate flavors of tart cherry, blueberry and red plum with pepper spice, burnt toast and herbs. Fine chalky tannins, medium+ finish ending with fruit, spice, floral and slight earthy character. Has short term aging benefit, but nice now! — 3 months ago
Beautiful drinking Barbaresco with its red cherry, berry fruit, spice, licorice, dried herbs, rose petal & tobacco. — 23 days ago
Phenomenal wine! Elegant but with subtle power. Rich red fruit with dark raspberries, hints of strawberry, crushed stone, touches of tar and cedar and subtle hints of smoke with chalky tannins. Classic barbaresco. Will try again! A wine to go back to. — a month ago
Popped and poured; enjoyed over he course of a few of hours The 2017 Riserva “Pora” pours a deep garnet color with medium+ viscosity and no staining of the tears. On the nose, the wine is developing with notes of Bing cherry, rhubarb, dried orange peel, tomato leaf, espresso, some tar, a bit of leather and dried earth. On the palate, the wine is dry with high tannin and medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is medium+. Of all the vineyards that get selected for Produttori’s Riservas, Pora is the MGA for which I have the least experience. Lack of experience with Pora aside, this is empirically an attractive Barbaresco Riserva. Still early days. Drink now through 2042. Bottle No. 5118/13333. — 4 months ago
