Regal Supreme

Château Pontet-Canet

Pauillac Red Bordeaux Blend 2010

2010 vintage. Decanted and tasted after 30 minutes and 1.5 hours. Light-medium/medium body. Silky, supple and supremely beautiful-for Bordeaux. Regal closure on a lengthy finish. So much attention to detail without it being overtly obvious. Exceptional beauty and a fave, cutting edge BDX producer-along with Durfort-Vivens in Margaux to taste the possibilities of the region. For Pauillac, nearly as gorgeous as Pichon-Lalande...a very close second. This was so stunning. 12.5.25. — 5 months ago

Antica Terra

Aurata Chardonnay 2011

Shay A
9.5

Color me shocked at how good this was. I’m a big fan of Antica Terra wines, and while I’m always impressed, my expectations for this 10yr old OR Chardonnay were vastly blown out of the water.

The main reason I opened this bottle is I thought the age would have been more evident, and it would be channeling a more rich, slightly oxidized type profile, and would go with an assortment of blue cheese I was sampling at a small local event. Upon opening, color is still gorgeously yellow gold. First impression was it came across thin yet still had really vibrant acidity…very steely and mineral driven. About an hour later, this absolutely exploded out of the glass as of it was a different wine. Pear, grilled lemon and lots of honeysuckle aromatics. It bulked up on the palate with supreme texture and balance showing a kiss of oak. Creamy yet weightless. Lemon confit, honeyed golden delicious apple, sea spray, and a rounded finish with plenty of baking spices yet the core of minerality was still there. This left me scratching my head in a good way…I seriously need to find another. This is the best OR Chardonnay I’ve ever had.

@Eric Urbani : Check out OO Wines from Oregon. I’ve only had a few of their Chardonnay’s (haven’t had the pinots), but they are a new and impressive addition to the OR wine scene.

Roagna

La Pira Barolo Nebbiolo 2013

Feels about the right drinking window w 12 yrs post release; fairly translucent rose/ brick red, supreme leather & dried roses on nose, balanced tannins & full yet soft on palate. Overall balanced affair, drunk out of limited stemware with a large bday party contingent so imagine would notice much more in quieter circumstances — a year ago

Domaine Jean-Louis Chave

Hermitage Syrah 1997

Mostly scarlet in color, translucent and regal. Deep nose. Notes of black cherry, blueberries, dried cranberries, some cool slate stone and some pepper. Rich and long in the mouth. Tannins fully resolved and integrated. Really nice for the vintage. In a great drinking window. — 5 years ago

FOMO 🤤

Château Mouton Rothschild

Pauillac Red Bordeaux Blend 1955

And now for something completely different. Tasted blind. Deep, dark and opaque. Herbal nose. Red fruit, tobacco leaf, menthol, some old cedar planks, some stone and some moist dark soil. Luscious in the mouth. Long finish, lingers forever. In a perfect spot. I guessed 61 Mouton. So regal, with big shoulders. Bottles like this have many more years of special delivery. Top top old Bordeaux... Thanks Stan! — 5 years ago

Domaine de Chevalier

Pessac-Léognan Red Bordeaux Blend 2018

Delectable Wine
9.7

The 2018 Domaine de Chevalier is easily one of the wines of the vintage. A wine of mind-blowing precision and regal elegance, Domaine de Chevalier dazzles from the very first taste. Dried herbs, rose petal, mint, blood orange, pomegranate and bright mineral notes all build in the glass. Richly layered but also translucent, the 2018 is a real head-turner. Don't miss it! Clos des Papes

Châteauneuf-du-Pape Red Rhône Blend 2001

Two bottles opened. Both the same… Regal tawny color. Mostly transparent. Fragrant herbal nose. Notes of ripe red fruit, herbs de Provence, dark dry earth and some fragrant flowers. Well balanced in the mouth. This wine is in a perfect spot, drinking today at peak. — 4 years ago

Château Margaux

Premier Grand Cru Classé Margaux Red Bordeaux Blend 1945

Tasted blind. Regal tawny color. Almost opaque. Sweet nose, but less so than the 64 red burg. Notes of cola, red fruit, cut cigar, smoke and some nice soil and spice thing. Rustic and austere in the mouth. Still has some pucker and a little structure but acidity is lighter. Reminds me of a very old Clos de Tart I had once so go with a 45 as my guess. Right vintage, wrong grape/region. Ha. — 5 years ago

Dark regal tawny. Opaque. Awesome nose. Notes of black fruit, cigar, menthol, mocha, old wood, moist black soil, some camphor and some dry brush. Great fruit in the mouth with substantial structure and a lasting finish. Silky smooth. Love this wine. — 5 years ago
