Great wine even though it didn’t hold up to my memories of former vintages, maybe because it’s a rare wine in its class that’s both excellent but drinks better young. It shed its primary character and left behind some ginger, vegetal tomato leaf and a silky texture with a long finish, driven by very prominent phenolic bitterness. From the Bellaria vineyard known to have really old Friulano and Merlot vines; some over 100 years old and own rooted. Popped and poured; enjoyed over the course of an hour. The 2022 “Buri Bellaria” Friulano pours a straw color with medium+ viscosity. On the nose, the wine is developing with notes of ripe orchard fruit: peach cup, grapefruit, Meyer lemon, tarragon, and gravelly earth. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is long, and savory with lovely minerals. Alcohol is high but balanced. A beautiful, refined Friulano with loads of character.
