Late Bottled Vintage Porto Port Blend 2019

Big, rich, ripe LBV with awesome fruit and structure, lacks the subtlety of the 1977 Graham’s vintage, but a great LBV as a sipper!! — a month ago

So, @Somm David T, thank you for the advice — we last visited Taylor-Fladgate in February of 2019, got a few nice pictures of the male peacock with the incredible plumage, but knew nothing about the Scion. If/when we go back to Porto, I will ask next time (can I use your name so they don’t think I’m just another American idiot/loser??) — sounds incredible, though, thanks!!

@Somm David T, also, we’ll be opening a 1977 Taylor Vintage Porto soon as well, I’ll report here how it was (purchased back in the early 1980s, with my other 1977s)!! Cheers!!

No name needed. Just ask for it. They make quite the presentation serving it. I’ll look for your note on the 77. Cheers. .

I think @Josh Morgenthau really nailed this note: recently finished Taylor Fladgate 20 yr which was always a favorite, but I picked this up in Duty Free and was blown away. Similar notes & flavor profile as TF, but the mouthfeel really sets this apart & above. So elegant, so refined, such great tension & harmony - the defined acidity highlight & elevate intense flavors. Bravo! — 3 years ago

Golden Age 50 Year Old Tawny Port Blend

Once again: I'm not a porto fan. And this one is The exception. Maybe because it's 50 years old, whether it's f.ckin' good. Smooth, elegant, with coffee, honey sweetness and very long finish. Best porto I've ever had. And probably the last one. — 4 years ago

This was a head scratcher. Don’t think I’ve had a wine like this. It wanted to reveal white chocolate and marzipan, but instead it tasted like green tea/chamomile coated almonds. It had some buttered pear and honeyed melon notes on the finish...very unique. — 7 years ago

It was definitely interesting. I’d like to try it again alongside similar wines to truly see what the style is they are going for.

Taylor Vintage Port Blend 1963

Taylor’s 1963 Vintage Port ( bottled Corney & Barrow)
Quite light in colour , light garnet ruby , wide watery garnet rim . Quite spirity , with some high toned spiced dried plum , warm fire side hints, currants and liquorice. On the palate this is quite sweet and rich , dried fruits , spice and caramel , menthol , aniseed hints . Balanced acidity , though quite spirity on the palate and with a pretty sweet profile. Raisins , dried dark fruits , with a menthol , liquorice hint , dried spices . Good length and balance overall . This is still in a good place , though the alcohol does stick out a bit. This has now mellowed and is fully mature: it’s the spice and tertiary complexity that makes this wine so interesting as the density of fruit is slightly less than it would have been when I ‘regularly’ drank this 20 years ago. So, drink now and over the next few years , though I doubt there is any real rush . Bottled Corney & Barrow , with no label on this one , as is quite normal for these English bottlings.

Vintage Port Blend 1994

1994 vintage. Popped, decanted and filtered and tasted immediately. Opened six decades too early. The whole crushed violets and plummy thang definitely there alongside hints of sweet tobacco in her breath. With apologies, just another number in your little black book. These are the pros and cons. 1.24.26. — 5 months ago

My 2nd favorite 20 yr behind Grahams. Ramos Pinto is good as well, but seems to have to bottle to bottle variability issues…. Taylor is a great standby at a good price. — 5 years ago

1863 Single Harvest

At almost 4000$ a bottle even a 1/4 of a ounce is amazing. I'm at a lose for words to describe it. It was magic on a dark night. It was a kiss under a street light in the rain it was amazing — 6 years ago

Taylor Fladgate is arguably the benchmark for LBV which they basically pioneered.

Notes of ripe blackberries, plum, cedar, chocolate, and spice. Warm and supple with balancing acidity. Great value.

30 Year Old Tawny Porto 1692

Blended from Taylor Fladgate's reserves of fine, cask-aged tawnies of several vintages, these wines are on average 30 years old. Deep golden amber color with intense and complex aromas of rich dried fruits, caramel, vanilla, spices and nuts, 125 grams of residual sugar. On the palate flavors of apricot, sweet berry, honey with orange marmalade, nutty and toasty notes, well balanced with lively nice acidity. Long finish ending smooth with a spice, woody, nutty and honey character. Very Nice. — 7 months ago

Change Up...

Leaving Puglia tomorrow starting the journey back home (READY, Willing, and Able as economists say). Really needed something somewhat different to eat, and drink. Last night in Lecce, so we went with this Roma-based restaurant, which has been great, despite the no AC thing ....

Decanted this blend of Montepulciano and Nero Buono for 30 minutes or so... More as we drank. I like this ...

I'm tired so I'll just say that the taste is the best part. To me, take a 10-15 Taylor Fladgate subtract the sugar and you get this taste. Oversimplifying of course ....
