Montevertine's Pian del Ciampolo blend is 90% Sangiovese, rest with equal amounts of Canaiolo and Colorino, deep Ruby with purple hues, aromas of red fruits, floral, herbs and smoky oak. On the palate flavors of cherry and currants with dried herb notes, cacao and tobacco notes. Fine ripe sweet tannins, long finish ending with fruit and an earthy herb spice character. Nov 2025: fruity and with noticeable oak (well integrated), nice nose, very good aged barbera, still has potential for cellaring a few years — 8 months ago
Classic Gruner from top producer. Radish, white pepper, tart apricot, great acidity. Great value too. — 5 months ago
Luscious. Full-bodied with lots of pear, mango, pineapple, and vanilla. Silky smooth with a fabulous finish. — 5 months ago
A good wine but I was expecting more. Hopefully the next bottle will be more to my expectation. — 6 months ago
Very tasty Barbera with some tanins, but not overwhelming. Had it with pasta and this worked very well. Usually not a big fan of Barbera, but this one stands out. — a year ago
2021 vintage. Last tasted 3.25.26 (9.0). Liked this time even less. Not feeling this vintage. 4.29.26. — 2 months ago
Opened and got about a 20-30 min decant. The nose on this was amazing and it literally filled the room upon pouring. The flavors were accessible from the start and delightful. Less dense/heavy than the Abreu but not a lightweight by any means. Again dark fruits and a finish that lasted. Was the WOTN by many being easy going but delightful. The Abreu made you think (and was my WOTN), this just made you happy. — 3 months ago
Excellent. I am slightly partial to Tor’s Torchiana, but this great. Meyer lemon, brioche, guava, apricot, vanilla, and almonds. — 5 months ago
Drank very nicely. Elegant wine with a light-medium palate. — 6 months ago

I usually don’t bother to report on the cork, but the cork in this bottle was stained a deep purple – almost black. I sniffed it and the intensity of its bouquet told me that this wine would be luscious. Herbal (sage & oregano) with a hint of rich umami solidity (almost like bacon). All from a cork! In a glass, the nose is less intense. Oregano and sage dominate. The “meatiness” of cork scent fades way back. Fruit forward without being syrupy — black cherries. Medium tannic structure, with hints of dark chocolate at the lower end of the spectrum balanced by a pleasing earthy minerality in the high notes. Unfortunately, the finish fades quickly. If this wine had a long finished, I’d probably give it at 9.8, but as it is a 9.5 will have to suffice. — 4 days ago
