Vougeot, Côte De Nuits

Domaine Méo-Camuzet

Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru Pinot Noir 2012

Dark rubi robe with some transparency. Very reticent nose of dark fruits, blackcurrant. Big bodied, masculine, dense, top soil and saline, very very long in the mouth. Gotta be the best Clos Vougeot we had in so many years. It’s very approachable now but its probably better to keep it another 6 or 7 years. At year 20 will be a royal experience. — 13 days ago

Aux Malconsorts Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru Pinot Noir 2017

Médium garnet with quite wide garnet terracotta rim. Touches of cut herbs , wild hedgerow fruit , violets , with some earthy , smoky hints . On the palate this has good density and roundness , with some ripe cherry , red plum , wild fruits and a touch of spice . Good acidity and fine , ripe tannins , good energy and freshness . Good length and a ripe red fruits, scorched earth tinged finish . Quite fresh and aromatically complex , probably the most enticing wine this evening and probably the most ready to drink. Very polished and complete. From now and over the next 10 years . — 16 days ago

Mommessin

Clos de Tart Grand Cru Pinot Noir 2017

Medium ruby with a medium garnet rim . Touch more sweetness on the nose , with rose , ripe cherry , red plum , raspberry , blood orange and some slightly toasty notes . On the palate this is juicy and quite sweet fruit profiled with raspberry, strawberry, quite fruit dominated . Rounded but noticeable tannins , fresh vibrant acidity and decent length . This is quite young, certainly compared to the Malconsorts , pretty sweet fruit , but overall well balanced and probably just needs a little more time . Quite a lot appears to be hidden at the moment , comes across a little one dimensional, but I think it will get there . Come back in 5-8 years, should drink well a further 10, if not more. — 16 days ago

Chambertin Grand Cru Pinot Noir 2011

I never expected the 2011 Chambertin to have such a firm backbone! I opened it yesterday at 3:30 for decanter breathing, then started glass-breathing at 6:30. Right after pouring, it was extremely tight – it wasn't until 8:30, after two full hours in the glass, that the aromas finally emerged: intense floral and powdery rose notes, with a powerful structure, great depth, and hints of chocolate, earth, leather, tobacco, and a peppery spice. The fruit was certainly there, but it wasn't soft or delicate. To be honest, this was a great wine in terms of aroma, structure, and quality – but it wasn't easy drinking. It felt like hard work, and frankly, it's not my preferred style. I took half the bottle home. Then tonight at 6:00, I opened the remaining half – and wow, the nose was bursting with wild roses, violets, and powdery perfume. The palate was a pure delight: the tannins had turned incredibly silky, with black cherry and sour plum intertwined, finishing clean, sweet, and refreshing. Completely opened up. This wine, when closed, is deep, introverted, and grand in structure; once open, it becomes flamboyant and exuberant. From now on, I think the best approach for Chambertin is an 8-hour decanter breather, followed by glass-breathing to appreciate its evolution along the way. — 21 hours ago

Clos des Lambrays Grand Cru Pinot Noir 2005

2005 vintage.
Rich black cherries, cocoa spice, orange peel, dark flowers, subois and earthy.
Long generous finish with crisp acidity and fine grained tannins.
This was bequeathed to me years ago at a Celebration of Life for a gentleman who was greatly influential and guiding on my wine journey.
A stunning wine from an incredible individual.
Cheers everyone.

Special moments, Jamie. I once got a Gloria 1959 from a wine reseller who liked my youthful enthusiasm. The birthyear of my wife, we drank it with the birth of our first child. 🫶

Bonnes Mares Grand Cru Pinot Noir 2017

Noticeably deep colour , deeper than all the others , medium deep ruby quite thin ruby rim . Quite herbal and deep on the nose , with darker fruit profile . Blackberry , dark plum, dark cherry , earthy herbal touches. On the palate this is quite dense and rich with dark cherry , kirsch, blackberry , and a richer frame . Quite gritty but ripe tannins , with balanced acidity . Decent lightly chalky cherry , blackberry, herbal tinged finish . Very different from all others , darker and richer , riper . However , still well made , though not that charming or , dare I say it ‘Burgundian’ , probably as expected . I believe this also needs some time , come back in 5 years and drink over the next 10 or so. — 16 days ago
