C. de Pinots Brut 1er Cru Champagne Blend

A 50/50 blend of Pinot Noir and (Pinot) Meunier; mostly sourced from the 2011 vintage (40%) with the balance from 2010 and 2009.

Popped and poured; enjoyed over the course of a few hours. The C. de Pinots NV pours a straw color with a persistent mousse. On the nose, the wine is developing with notes of ripe apple, toasted brioche, split almonds and lemon bar and spices. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is medium+. The DNA is there and showing a slightly more oxidative style. Drink now. Disgorged July 2016.

Nose: very high toned. Brioche but elegant brioche.

Palate: lovely caramel. Rich. But elegant. Delicious. So fresh.

Long.

Terroir de Granit St. Joseph Syrah 2019

Deep and feral. Blood and granite all over the nose, along with cracked black peppercorns and dry aged beef. Pretty large-framed for a Saint Joe on the palate. Savory, iron and granite. Still some tannin to shed. I’d thought this would be further along than it is, but it’s got promises to keep and miles to go before it sleeps. — 2 months ago

@Tegan Marriott - His name is Bandol. All my dogs since ‘83 have been named after wine. Nebbiolo, PN, Zinny, and now Bandol. He’s a rescue. The DNA report says he’s 31% Dachshund, 25% Pit Bull, and a bunch of other stuff. He’s a sweetie!

Terrific aromatic intensity with minerals, meyer lemon, sea air and more. Usually needs to open aromatically. The palate is a wonder. Classic PF finesse and airiness along with massive power and depth. Sapid and long. This needs mega air but the quality is off the charts. Today is all toast and razors. Nose is gorgeous. Salted cream. Unreal minerality. Great acid and length. Killer energy. — 2 months ago

Morgon Gamay 2023

The side label says this is from the Grands Cras lieu dit. This definitely smells and tastes like a low or no sulfite “natural” wine. Not so much because of any barnyard notes, but because of how juicy and bright the “just crushed” Gamay juiciness jets out of the glass. There’s some nice granitic minerality too. The flavors seem to change with each sip. Bright, deep, lively, and playful. Really fun wine. BTW, there was a surprising amount of very floaty, almost Pinot Noir-like sediment in the bottle. I double-decanted to get rid of it and poured a couple of tablespoons of those dregs in the chicken braise I’m making. — 10 months ago
