It is time for some Merlot on this #MerlotThursday. Let's bring Merlot back!
Beautiful color of ruby with a wide brick rim.
Great nose with over ripen red fruits, forest floor and earth notes.
Medium plus in body with medium acidity.
Dry on the palate with plums, currants, cooked cherries, dried fruits, light wood, prunes, cola, chocolates, spices, herbs and vegetables.
Medium finish with soft tannins and tangy cherries.
This 30 year old Merlot is still drinking nicely. Not at its peak anymore, but very tasty nonetheless. Elegant with some fruits left. Complex and interesting.
I've had a recent vintage not too long ago that was drinking better, although I did love the complexity here, especially on the nose.
Good by itself as a sipping wine, and will pair nicely with food too.
A blend of 90% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc. Aged for 12 months in (30% new) French oak barrels.
Beautiful Loire Cabernet Franc, just a touch of green in the fruit, but with that cool climate feel, long finish, terrific wine, thanks to Eric Texier for telling us (my wine group) that Lenoir was making great Cab Franc!! — 7 months ago
@Ira Schwartz, all true, he took us to Domaine Chamonard (we were so cold tasting there that our teeth were literally chattering), also Lapalu and Janin in Beaujolais, always in his own cellars, and we’d spend a day at the Marche aux Vins in Ampuis!! In addition to making fabulous wines himself, Eric was so generous with his knowledge and connections, Lenoir in Chinon being another one!!
@Doug Powers I know it’s all true. Some of the wine folks I hang out with are close to him and every time he would visit NYC they would have dinners with him.
Consensus favorite of the four ‘14 Loire CFs (except for my dissenting vote favoring the Baudry, which I had the benefit of tasting the following day). Showing beautifully — a month ago
This is bonkers good. So fresh. Berries, currant, sage, some flowers, cherries, some pepper and herbs, good acidity, long tart lovely finish. Killer cab franc. — 4 months ago
First bottle was little orange, and over the top. Bottle 2 was greenish yellow with exact the style we love. So thumbs up for the last bottle. — 2 months ago
