Coravin

Château Pichon-Longueville Baron

Baron de Pichon-Longueville Pauillac Red Bordeaux Blend 2000

Pretty deep garnet ruby , garnet rim . This is pretty open and aromatic, with smoky creme de cassis , grafite , blackberry and cedar , light herbal touches , really quite classic and noble . On the palate this has good balance and density , good freshness also . Ripe , very fine but perceptible tannins . Dark fruits , grafite , tobacco , long and detailed slightly mineral notes on the good length finish . Really elegant , though quite serious and traditional, not easy to pull off. This is drinking perfectly now (Coravin might have helped here , I would certainly decant if I had a full bottle) , though still quite fruit driven with some tertiary complexity coming through . Really harmonious and complex . From now and over the next 15 years, maybe more . At Doppo Restaurant, Soho . — a month ago

Wow 🚀 that was an exciting line up of wines and it seems like the Pichon, Brunello and Lynch Bages were the cream of the crop

Had one of mine two years ago. Didn’t think it was ready like a lot 2000’s I’ve had so far. Think it is either a forever vintage or just not living up to the hype of 2000? Cheers! 🍷

I thought this was really quite excellent @Somm David T , it did seem quite open , though this might be to do with it being under Coravin.. I would certainly decant for a while if opening a bottle . Or alternatively leaving for another 5-10 years will do no harm at all . One of the better 2000s I have had , in some ways it is a bit of a hit or miss vintage .. but the peaks are very high . Hope you enjoy your other bottles !

Château Mouton Rothschild

Pauillac Red Bordeaux Blend 2005

Very disappointed. I had a more mature bottle fail to hold up last week so I had an itch still to scratch and went younger but still ready. Or so I thought - perhaps should have waited another 10 years?Poured out half with a Coravin and it just never got going. Very understated and reserved. Even with a few hours it never opened up. Perhaps it’s bottle variation but I will try again later this week with the second half. — 4 years ago

Yes, suggest a wait of another 10 (or 20+) years before trying another Mouton 05... just had an 82 of this and it wasn’t close to being ready; the 05 is in that class IMO. If you must open one, give em at least 8+ hours of air in a decanter before consumption

Thank you Mike. I tried second half and let air half a day and it was decidedly better but this one was a bit early. Appreciate the advice for the next one!

Shafer Vineyards

One Point Five Stags Leap District Cabernet Sauvignon 2021

2021 vintage. Coravin sampled from a 375ml bottle. That classic, Shafer feminine, cassis, graphite flavor blanket with balanced, on cue tannins. Picked up two cases of the 1/2 btls as we will blow thru them. 03.19.25. — 5 months ago

Château Malescot St. Exupéry

Margaux Red Bordeaux Blend 2016

2016 vintage. From Coravin. Medium body. Phenomenal smoky, mineral nose. Almost all traces of the baby fat gone. Transitioning from the teen years into young adulthood but still visiting the parents to do laundry on occasion. Tannins picking up and slowly becoming more pronounced. Need to taste this again in a year or two. Very promising. 5.9.24. — a year ago

Eastside Road Neighbors Pinot Noir

‘14 Coravin pour. Baking spice, cherry cobbler, good acidity. Bigger styled Pinot than I usually drink but it’s Williams Selyem so I can def get down with this. — 4 years ago

Fattoria di Fèlsina Berardenga

Riserva Rancia Chianti Classico Sangiovese Blend 2013

Holy smokes this is good. Backbone aplenty and intense acidity define this beauty. Red fruit and licorice about. It tastes like a baby still. Indeed, in the coming years I'm sure it'll become much more giving. I've been using my Coravin on the 2013 Felsina Rancia for around a month. Consistent impressions so far. — 5 years ago

The 13 is good for a try, though has a long time left. I also tried a 16, which needs way longer.

Bodegas y Viñedos Vega Sicilia

Unico Ribera del Duero Tempranillo Blend 2013

The goal was to only pour out half with the Coravin. This wine had other ideas. The whole Magilla came out and man was it nice. Perfectly blended and packing lots of power as well as finesse. So glad this is in its drinking window. Nice change of mix from Italian wines. — 6 months ago
