Waxed leather, dusty brick, slow cooked meat, wood smoke. Never had a wine from this area before and thoroughly enjoyed it, very earthy very visceral wine. Could if he’s a little more structured, but all things considered I’m not enough in an expert to say this that or whatever. Really delicious and went very well with giant pasta shells, high fat butter, and venison meatballs. No complaints.  — 6 months ago

Straka Blaufränkisch Eisenberg Reserve Rechnitz 2017
So expressive on the nose with Zwetschgen plum jam, spiced up with cinnamon, cloves and a touch of anise. But there’s more. Mandarine & lemon peel, dried apple, wilted flowers, smoked, dried plums, aged raw beef.
This is so multifaceted. So fresh & pure yet sweet & seductive at the same time.
On the palate this is really juicy & sappy. Ther’s some sweetness to the fruit & the scented wood accents underneath but the juicy acidity and purity is forefront adm driving this wine. There’s a savoury side to this as well, a touch of minerality, the tannins fine & dusty yet still providing a frame.
This is truly delicious stuff!! They weren’t joking about this Straka guy!

Pale gold with green reflexes. Nice aromatics with a ripe apple, a touch of pear, some mirabelle plums and summer meadow flowers. Midweight on the palate with juicy acidity, nice texture and great purity of fruit. Apples and herby flowers again, with some white pepper in the finish. This has more weight vs the average German Riesling, but remains elegant and with nice tension despite not having the razor sharp mineral acidity. This is a very, very nice wine. — 7 years ago

Star bright yellow gold in the glass. Full nose of hay, white flowers, dried apple. Bright acidity leads the savory medium palate of hay and stone with a back spritz of apple juice and citrus rind. A food wine, to be sure. Sausages and spaetzle with apples and onions are in demand! — 9 years ago
