Eden Road

Mount Eden Vineyards

Santa Cruz Mountains Cabernet Sauvignon 2020

Zach D
9.1

Pours a purple hue with some fading at the rim; aromas of black and red fruit; raspberry, blackberry, some dark cherry, and cassis; palate with good acidity, congruent with the nose; there is a bit of vanilla clove baking spice oak on the palate. Alcohol is moderate at 13.5; I like the wine, and I don’t drink a whole lot of American wines. The oak influence should be more delicate in my opinion, as the fruit is pretty elegant. It overwhelms a bit, and holds it back. I have doubts that this aspect will improve with bottle age, but I have another couple bottles and will leave in the cellar as an experiment. — 4 days ago

@Zach D Cautiously optimistic that overt oak will completely fade into the background in 7-8 years and the wine will truly blossom.

Adobe Road

Beckstoffer Georges III Cabernet Sauvignon 2016

Opened a bottle 2 years ago & it was excellent but a bit of tannin bite on finish. Today this bottle retained the fruit aromas & palate feel but it’s finish softened so I found it bit better. — 2 months ago

Felton Road

Calvert Pinot Noir 2024

Really smooth. A lot more dark plums, and softer tannins. Earthiness, small amount of spice and looong aftertaste — 4 months ago

St. Eden Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon Blend 2007

1 hour decan(decent chunky/fine sediment). A striking still dark garnet color. On the nose: Captivating notes of dark fruit, stewed meat, mushroom, eucalyptus, roasted coffee bean. Taste: silky, opulent, structured wine with dark cherry, tobacco, charred earth, currants, herbs, pepper, and a coffee-pencil lead long finish with just a touch of heat from the alcohol. YUM!! — 4 months ago

Block 5 Pinot Noir 2020

Outstanding block 5. Much more concentration and power than precious vintages. Strawberry, raspberry, pepper, wood spice. The power of the very best from Central Otago but with an elegance.
Really great pinot.

Block 3 Central Otago Pinot Noir 2019

Hopefully Delectable will allow me to write a complete note. Here we go ….
Dark Ruby with a crimson rim. Closed on the nose initially. Straight from the bottle - should have decanted it. Rich on the palate. Latent power with much to give. Dark cherry with dried herbs still to come with further cellaring. This is the first of 5 bottles. In the early days Block 3 was the undisputed best Pinot in NZ but now Block 5 is considered along with other contenders from around NZ. Have the next one in a year. Many good judges think this is the best ever Block 3 up to this point.

@Bob McDonald I have had so many postings fail I have just given up, maybe it’s a regional Australian issue.. I’ve also lost the location selector. Overall so frustrating 😩

I can’t speak to how this platform functions regionally. But at the heart of this issue is Delectable not keeping up with the coding that allows an app to run smoothly. There are numerous functionality issues here. They have known about them for a very long time. Yet, they remain. That speaks to not possessing the funds and or personal to update their coding so the platform running smoothly. They only maintain the coding to the point of it still runs but with bugs. The problems also seem to vary for Apple and Android users.

@Somm David T Thank you for your comments. Sadly yes, it seems that way. Maybe they should pass it on to Claw-code and develop some AI agents to maintain it 🤣🤣

Bannockburn Pinot Noir 2019

Unmistakably Central Otago to my palate. Red plums and raspberries. 20% of the grapes were whole bunch. Also aged in 27% new oak. I must mention Neil Martin’s famous Quote, “ Whenever there is a tasting designed to challenge the supremacy of Burgundy, it is usually Felton Road that is ushered into the ring”. Very much on allocation these days and can be difficult to source. — 2 months ago

Mount Eden Cabernet clone from the old Cinnabar property. Most people don't know this clone has Château Margaux origins. This cab and the Mount Eden Estate (and the old old Mount Eden Reserve Old Vine d.1992) with those Margaux subtleties on dry-farmed slopes? Uhh duh. Sign my ass(ets) up posthaste.
