When they say bring your A game you can think of this bottle. This is an amazing glass of wine. It benefits from decanting for a good bit. Upon opening I thought of dusty plum and cedar on the nose. Tasting brought plum, currant, blackberries, vintage leather plus an array of other items indicative of this style of big wine. There is a good mix of tannins and acid that makes this a classic great glass of wine. I want to try it again in a few years to see how much better it may get. — 4 years ago
Awesome vintage and at a great point in its evolution. Long animalistic syrah, game, cigarette ash, rabbit fur, background of black pepper, smooth rounded tannin. Great bouquet jumping out, light on palate — 7 years ago
Very fruity nose, raspberries, medium body, fruit forward with lingering baking spices and pepper tannins. Works perfectly with our BBQ ribs before the GoT finale!!! — 7 years ago
It surprised me. It’s got a tropical herbaceous thing. Like the tropical cocktail with just enough herb garnish to cut through whatever juice is in it. And bone dry. Do I have a metaphor for this...let’s see it is a movie that’s starts as a chick flick and then has a deep message but then still has a happy slightly cliché ending, and you’re okay with it. It’s the 13 Going on 30 of Chenins. Hop on hop in like the bunny on the bottle. — 7 years ago
Savory dark berry fruit with notes of game and herb. More dense thsn expected. — 8 years ago
Pop and pour yesterday, at which point it was absolutely stunning. Notes from 24 hrs open. On the nose: soft cola, olive brine, wet stone, a touch of game, cool sandalwood. Absolutely spectacular aromatics. On the palate: fantastic acidity, tomato leaf, olive, black raspberry, lovely density with very finely grained tannin on the juicy finish. This is spectacular. — 3 years ago
1998. Simply excellent! A bit of fruit and acidity left, but also tasting some game, flint, and smoke that I love in some older burgundy. — 6 years ago
BSR don’t come to the African bush without it. Just like American Express, don’t leave home without it. Missed it!
All my previous notes apply.
Photos of, the nearly 20 Lions we found on our afternoon game drive. Three Males (one of them featured with the big yawn) four Lionesses and 12 or 13 Cubs, the completion of seeing the “Big Five” experience with this Buffalo on our morning game drive and most of the Lion pride laying in the sand awaiting the evening hunt.
9.3 on the BSR and a perfect 10 on our game drives.
@Severn Goodwin This ones for you! 🤣 Cheers! — 7 years ago

I’ve had two bottles of this and absolutely love it. Runs about $50, and I’ve been buying it at world market. — 8 years ago
Another superb 13! Mugnier’s Fuées, a magical vineyard and essentially a southern extension of Bonnes Mares, is just stunning tonight wafting layers of sweet strawberry-rhubarb, black tea, rose petals, game and smoky minerals. It’s liquid velvet in the mouth with an energetic spine of cool minerality and balanced acids adding freshness and focus to its delivery. A beguiling combination of power and elegance and a fabulous expression of the vintage. — 9 months ago
Pop and pour. About 2 years since my last btl. Wow, stunning now.. Cola, soft nuits earth and game, dried raspberry and wild strawberry, perfume for days. On the palate: fantastic acidity, a touch thin, but somehow simultaneous denser on the finish, which shows loads of spice, strawberry. — 4 years ago
Always a fav. First taste of 2015 vintage, nice balance for the year, extraction is deft and carries some finesse to it. As usual, complex, layered, full of goutte de terroir. Layers of cherry from crushed to soaked, slight hint of prune, raspberry confiture, game, fur, roast beef, juniper, forest and cedar, pure garrigue, licorice root, ceylon cinnamon, chaparral, powdered sugar, 5 spice, singed tobacco, graphite, bitter cocoa. Still taut, the tannins need time to relax, but I think they will always have persistence in the wine. Ok with me. — 6 years ago
V16. Pretty good. Soft vanilla nose. Creamy apple and honey kissed apricot fruit. Clean finish. Nice weight and balance. Certainly on par with GOT! — 7 years ago
Richer and riper than expected. Dark fruits, black and blue. Lots of new French oak, game and a touch of spice. Finessed but I’m looking for more acid. — 8 years ago

Savory and game. Great rich and pure plummy fruit with a hint of spice on the nose. Inky and balanced with iron and graphite. Stunning and balanced — 22 days ago
